Please don't bring your child here. They missed a virus and a severe ear infecting in my one year old after 6 hours of monitoring and testing, and were more concerned with getting good vitals for their numbers than her health ( because her heart rate was elevated from a high fever and crying). They literally said it doesn't look good for them when I told them if they aren't admitting her then we are leaving.
My 2 month old daughter was in the hospital over Mother's Day weekend with a bacterial infection. I'm a first time mother and to say that I was scared and nervous is an understatement. The care that we received from both the doctors and the nurses was amazing. They kept us informed and made us feel as comfortable as we could be, being in our situation. I would recommend this hospital to anyone that asks. Dr. Chen and nurse Katie were among our favorites. They made sure we never were in need and made us feel confident that she would be good as new, within their care!
Disappointed and will never return to this hospital. Staff is a mixed bag, the only saving grace I saw in this place was Dr. Ian Thornley. He is the kind of doctor who you want your child to see. We came in just before a shift change, and within an hour of being discharged (by a different doctor, I'll omit her name) my child was struggling to breath again. She never should have discharged him with those stats. This time we went directly to Boston Children's, which is what we should have done in the first place. He was admitted overnight. This place is a poor representation of Mass General.
Initial emergency room via ambulance transport care and follow up was right on target professionally and with skill and familiarity . Upon being admitted and transported to this somewhat locked seperated wing , things went downhill after awhile when I was informed that a family member could not sit thru part of the late night with distressed patient due to hospital visiting hours policy . The fact that we had to leave mother alone because not allowed to stay with patient after visiting hours (unless patient is in private room ). Because I was confused and un-grounded as a result of crisis leading up to hospitalization , I accepted hospital policy and left hospital feeling powerless and disappointed. I felt that I was abandoning my elderly mother seemingly to strangers in a strange place .
Took my daughter to a pediatric nephrologist here. She ordered labs and an ultrasound. When I went to return the specimen the lab orders had never been entered. Had to stand outside the lab waiting for a nurse to return my call confirming that the orders were entered. Never heard back from the doctor about the results of the ultrasound or labs. Left multiple messages on the office VM and the main VM in Boston. No return call. The numbers I had previously called that went to a live person now only go to a VM. Multiple messages left on multiple days over the following week, and none of them returned. Communicating test results to a patient should be automatic not something the patient has to go to great lengths to obtain. My insurance was billed within a week of the appointment, and I have a
