My mom has early onset Alzheimer's in her 60s, and finding a home that can handle her level of activity (continued walking) combined with rapidly decreasing cognitive skills and weight loss and fatigue (leading to falls) has been extremely challenging. We tried two homes previously within a 7 month period, but both were unable to keep up with her medical and physical needs. Moving her to Carrol Campbell has been a dramatic relief for our family. My mom was admitted to this facility almost 3 months ago. Her long-term care policy for in-home care ran out, and we could no longer afford in-home care. She had been taking a very low-dose benzodiazepine to keep her calm at times, which was working effectively. After she was admitted, she was given the same benzodiazepine, only four times a day, as she had struck out at a nurse when they woke her up in the morning and tried to change her. That would have been enough to make her very drowsy. She was also placed on a tablet That essentially slow, brainwave activity, a type of anticonvulsant, daily, and within a week she was having difficulty feeding herself and was slurring her words considerably more.
