I'd really like to thank you so much Dr Schweitzer for helping my friend locate her car in the parking garage after my appointment today. I happen to be the last patient of the day. My friend who was looking just had a pretty major surgery and was still healing. This was her first visit in the area so she was unfamiliar with parking on the 3rd floor. Dr. Schweitzer is very arrogant, condescending, and judgement. He had the worst attitude and bedside manner I’ve ever seen. As someone who has worked in a clinical role for the last ten years, I was very taken back. Definitely not a good first experience at Duke Ortho.

If you value your limb, wish to heal properly, get treated like a person and an insurance payout, do not make an appointment with him. He claimed to be a professor and taught the anatomy of the Ankle but he was wrong about my diagnosis. I broke my right Ankle, tore my Achilles and broke the Talus Bone. I went to him for a follow-up appointment. He told me that there was nothing wrong with my Ankle and asked who told me the nonsense. I said the doctor at the Urgent Care. This is when he give me his credentials about being a professor and teaching at Duke about the anatomy of the Ankle. He said that I could wear the boot provided by the "Urgent Care Dr" with disdain but insisted that there was nothing wrong. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Schweitzer! I have been his patient for 6 months now. I had ankle fusion surgery on my right foot and 3 months later I had my left foot done. He is confident and is the best foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon in this area. The entire experience has been great especially all the staff. The communication and care is superb. I highly recommend Dr. Schweitzer, especially for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease foot and ankle reconstruction.

When I arrived at Duke Ortho and met Dr. Schweitzer, I was sure that my situation was hopeless. I had all ideas that I would receive bad news and would be going home with the news that I would be losing my foot. One and a half years later, I am driving, walking, doing yard work and hoping to get back on the boat this summer. All things I couldn’t do before and wondered if I would ever be able to do again. It wasn’t an easy fix, there were bumps in the road, but he never gave up on me and I will be forever grateful for Dr. Schweitzer and his staff for their commitment to my recovery!
