HMG Urgent Care at Abingdon

We use HMG as our primary care and pediatrician and they are absolutely wonderful. This urgent care, not so much. Rude office staff and nurses. The Doctors and nurse practitioners have the some of the most horrible bedside manners I’ve ever dealt with. This place makes Ballad urgent care look good and that’s saying something…. I have been here a total of 3 times, and will never waste my time here again. The last time I went they dismissed my child (who was crying because she was so itchy, mind you) because they claimed there was a slim chance my insurance wouldn’t pay. Which was total BS because my insurance would have covered 80% …. When I told them to just bill me the amount and even offered to pay upfront they told me, “if there’s a chance the insurance won’t pay, your kids issue isn’t

My whole family, including myself, have used this facility on multiple occasions and never have issues. We never have to wait, the providers listen to what you have to say, and the nurses are kid friendly. My only fear/complaint is I only found out about them after walking out of my PCP that’s across the parking lot. I just don’t think people know about them. I’ve never seen advertising anywhere that I can recall, and I’ve asked probably 7-8 different families if they knew they were there. The response is always the same, often asking if I’m referring to urgent care off exit 19 (Ballad). Make yourselves more marketable! I would be sad if this place were to shut down. Backstory: Drove 3 hours for Virginia Highlands Balloon Festival. Unloading at the hotel my daughter was skating around on the sidewalk. She had a horrible fall! I googled UC near me and found HMG UC! From checking in as an out of town patient, Xray, our wonder MA, to NP and back to check out the staff was AMAZING! She was scared and they took time to talk her through everything, gave her juice to help calm her, but still got us in and out in about 30 mins. She had a buckle fracture. They splinted her and even provided me with disk with images and report for our provider at home. Their statement is they provide better than exceptional care and it is 1000% true!!!! Had a wonderful first experience at this new location! Took my sick 4 year old on a Sunday which is probably one of the busiest days. The girls up front were super sweet and got us checked in quickly. The wait was not bad at all! Nurse Ginni was phenomenal with my daughter, made getting vitals and testing a breeze for her. Nurse Practitioner Sasha Musick was just as awesome! Took time to hear our concerns and do a thorough examination all while keeping my little one calm and happy. We are thrilled to have this amazing group in the Abingdon area for urgent care! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend!! I came in close to closing and I was treated with care! Nothing felt rushed, all my questions were answered. And I felt I could ask a question and was able to gain information about my pains. I will absolutely use them again!!
