Grundy County Memorial Hospital

I recently had orthopedic surgery done at GCMH. Everyone involved in the procedure (surgeons, nurses, and everyone else) was friendly and professional and got me through this surgery with the best of care. In addition to the orthopedic and surgery departments, which are both excellent, I have visited their physical therapy department many times and the staff there are excellent as well. My primary care physician in their general practice department is the best physician I have ever had and the staff there is just as friendly and professional as the rest of the hospital. Grundy County, Iowa is very lucky to have such an excellent medical center as Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Jeffrey Curnes, is rude dismissive he rushed me he didn't listen to me he cut me off he accused me of being aggressive and flailing my arms at him. He was extremely arrogant and placating. I didn't feel like he believed me I didn't feel like he listened to me I didn't feel like he cared. He wrote a review about me 5 minutes after I left the hospital saying that I was aggressive and flailing my arms. I was removing my blood pressure cuff and my oxygen monitor on my finger and I was picking up my coat to leave I was never flailing my arms I never raised my voice and I was never aggressive. But what I did tell him was that I didn't like his smirk and that I was tired of him cutting me off and so I'm leaving. So, my wife fell and broke her right ankle at the end of May. I took her to the E.D. in Grundy Center and they were absolutely amazing. They set her ankle and got her pain under control. The attending Doctor and nurses were so amazing! The got her transferred to Iowa City for surgery and we're so helpful. My upmost thanks to Dr. Shover and Nurse Troy and team for there help. GREAT small-town hospital! Unfortunately I ended up in the ER one morning and was seen, evaluated (including imaging), and treated immediately. I recently had a procedure done that that has taken hours at other regional hospitals. I was in and out in under 2 hours here. The staff has always been super helpful, professional, and friendly. I cannot say I have ever had a better experience at a medical facility. They are my go-to location for any procedure I need done.

This is the only hospital I will allow my family to bring me to. It is the only place I have ever been where I truly felt like they cared and took everything I said seriously. Having the absolute worst pain of my life, Mercy in waterloo gave me 1 dose of fentanyl that didn't help and then told me to take naproxen and go home. They wanted me to take Naproxen for pain Fentanyl wouldn't even touch. I came straight to grundy instead where they admitted me and every doctor I've spoken to disagrees with what Mercy said was wrong. They are truly doing everything they can to find the right combination of pain medication to keep me comfortable. The nurses and doctors are very nice to me. Other places just make me feel like I'm annoying them or inconveniencing them.
