I had a recent stay at the childrens hospital because my 9 month old daughter needed an EEG done. I will preface this by saying the doctors and nurses were all very kind, helpful, always asked if we needed anything, they were friendly and had good bedside manners. But there were a few things about this hospital that made me reconsider ever going there again. For starters, the rooms are shared between 2 patients. We were put in the front of the room and given a medical crib and a small twin size pull out couch. There was 0 room to move around, the nurses had almost no room to do any of the exams without having to move stuff out of the way. The crib they provided was so tall it was incredibly difficult to put my daughter on top of the bed, not to mention my daughter doesnt sleep in a crib l
My daughter was admitted for 3 nights due to acute respiratory failure caused by a severe case of RSV. All of the staff that we interacted with were amazing during an incredibly stressful time. I had stayed there with my daughter due to the “1 parent overnight rule” and door dashed dinner one night that was dropped off at the front desk of the hospital. Since I couldn’t leave the room, the one respiratory tech (I can’t remember her name) went above and beyond and offered to run down for me and brought up my food, which I really appreciated. I also wanted to thank the nurse Mary Kate for showing so much compassion for my little girl and constantly checking on me or if I needed anything. Please let her know I appreciated it so much and that there needs to be more nurses like her!
World class care! Our son was admitted for consistent stomach issues. The team diagnosed the issue and surgery was scheduled the next day. This took place on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The staff were amazingly empathetic and professional. The hospital had gifts from Santa for our 5 week old son. They found clothes for me in the middle of the night since I was covered in vomit and helped keep our son calm when he couldn't eat for over 12 hours. Kat, Amanda, Mary Kate and company were stellar!
This hospital has a policy that allows only one parent to stay overnight with a hospitalized baby. Let that sink in. A baby who cannot speak, cannot self-soothe, cannot understand where they are — and the hospital’s answer is to separate them from one of their parents during one of the most stressful experiences of their life. From an emotional standpoint, this is cruel. From a developmental standpoint, it’s indefensible. From a medical standpoint, it’s counterproductive. Infants rely on both parents not just for comfort, but for continuity of care. One parent alone is expected to manage feeds, diapers, medications, consoling a sick child, communicating with doctors, and staying awake through the night — all while the other parent is sent home, helpless, anxious, and excluded from critic
This is worse than I thought. Even though you want to give them the money for the insurance and the co-payment, they don't want to do their job properly. They were negligent with a 2-year-old child with a fever, and they still refuse to do their job correctly. They're hiding their names so they can't be identified and we can't file a complaint. They have no professionalism, not even enough to speak to the parents and greet them first. Of course, my son is 17; he can answer, but he doesn't even remember what medicine he asked for. If you go to a hospital for an emergency, it's an emergency, not something that keeps you for an hour and a half to run the tests they need. They should be better professionally, and also with those who register patients, as if it were the fault of the patient. I
