Gentle Dental Dover

I went into Gentle Dental in Dover with so much anxiety around seeing dentists, and I can honestly say my experience changed everything for me. Upon walking in, you're greeted by the front desk ladies, who were so accommodating when checking me into my appointment. Coming from a childhood with no knowledge when it came to maintaining oral health, going to the dentist office is scary. Dr. Shad and the dental assistants have created such a judgement-free environment that completely eased that fear. Because of the experience here, I feel more confident and motivated to keep up with my mouth care instead of avoiding it. I highly recommend Gentle Dental Dover to anyone who struggles with anxiety or is just looking for a compassionate team.

Gentle Dental of Dover (formerly JD Howard Dental) is, regrettably, the very last place I would recommend for dental care. I had been a long-standing patient of Dr. Josh Howard for many years, and under his care, every appointment, whether for a routine cleaning or a filling, was consistently seamless and professional. The staff, who remained with the practice for years, were always kind, competent, and welcoming. However, since the transition to corporate ownership, the quality and integrity of this office have declined dramatically. The practice appears to suffer from chronic mismanagement, and the constant turnover of staff speaks volumes. I've been a patient here for 6 years. It used to be a great place and I liked the staff, the doctors. Since changing owners, my experience has not been great. My last cleaning was all completely new faces, and the hygienist didn't even do a proper cleaning; he missed 1/4 of my mouth. It was messy, I left with the polishing material all over my lips. I recognize no one in the office. I will be moving to a different practice.

I am sad to write this review because my initial experience with the office was wonderful. They fit me in quickly for an emergency crown and the doctor was knowledgeable, staff all very nice and accommodating. Everything great for the first crown! I ended up needing a second crown a month later and went back. I had a different doctor completing the work and when it came time to place the crown it turned out they didn't have the color that matched my teeth. WELL, I now have one tooth that is starkly white compared to all my other teeth. This tooth won't tarnish like my natural teeth and will only become more obviously fake/ different from my natural teeth. I almost never post reviews but I have to today. This dental office is the BEST! I use to go to another dental office for 20 years and always dreaded the dentist, not with JD Howard. The moment I walk in I am met by a cheerful smile from the check in person. Wait less than 10 minutes in the cleanest waiting room I have ever seen before being called back for my appointment. The assistant or hygienist is always so cheerful as well and chats while walking me back. I then wait less than 5 minutes in the chair to be met by the dentist who is AMAZING!!!! (The dentist cleaned my teeth last time! Best cleaning and so gentle I have ever had!) They treat you like family! They don't try to scare or over sell you all kinds of dental work you don't need.
