Gateway Regional Medical Center Emergency Department

This is from a patient who has been many times, not just a single experience. I have chronic medical issues that cause me to have extreme episodes of fainting, vomiting, pain, and shaking. I am an adult, but as a teen I got diagnosed with anxiety (which I am lucky to have recovered from). Because it is in my medical history, the ER doctors always tell me, no matter what, that it is anxiety. It is both humiliating and unfounded. Most recently, I went in for severe pain, and though I was passing out in the waiting area I still had to wait over a hour. When I finally got back, I knew the cause of the pain and explained the doctor. I was crying, hyperventilating, and near passing out from the pain. He said “well you have XYZ and XYZ causes pain. What do you want me to do about it?” I kid you n

Absolutely horrible billing department. I had a month gap in health insurance coverage and unfortunately was worried I was having an allergic reaction at 11 pm in 2023. I didn't get a bill until 2024 - an entire year after the visit and long after I could have opted for COBRA. I then had to call them multiple times for an itemized bill. I emailed them and called them 5-6 times. I eventually got the Illinois Attorney General involved and they wouldn't respond back to their attempts to contact the billing department either. After almost an additional year of trying to get an itemized bill, they finally sent one. But I am 100% confident that they made up the amount due for an er visit. $3500 for an ER visit where I wasn't even in a room and was on a bed in the hallway. They did no testing. He

The physician and the front desk ER attendant were very nice. I came in with back pain. I had lifted a refrigerator and turned the wrong way. No reason for covid test. When I asked the phlebotomist what he was taking 3 tubes of blood for he refused to answer he was very impersonable, rude and short tempered. The phlebotomist spilled water on me didn't even offer a towel or anything, just walked away. I told him I had thin veins and I was allergic to adhesive he then proceeded to use regular tape anyway and I could tell I had made him angry, it was very apparent. I had to stop him with the bandaid., he never did tell me what my testing was for and then snubbed me when I said I wanted to know. The main lack of stars is for how extremely disgusting this hospital was. They were not busy.

Wait over 3 hours. People who came after me was seen before me. Refuse to give some kind of help while waiting. 30 min pledge was not upheld at all. No kind of help was offered. Nurse was very ignorant and told people in the emergency room that they can just leave. What hospital tells people they can leave without even attempting to help them I've been waiting since 10 pm on Friday March 18,2022 and it's going on 2am and instead of getting help people are being told they an leave. So unprofessional

Takes their time , short staffed, if you plan on taking your child here at anytime just don't!! It's a joke, the staff and when a child is needing IV fluids you bet a whole town is going to agree IN WHY YOU WOULD NOT HELP WITH THE VOMITING ETC. WHAT ARE THEY DOING??!!!! WORST HOSPITAL ANYONE HAS GONE TOO I WILL ADD MORE REFERENCES LATER. I REPEAT DON'T GO AND LET YOUR CHILD SUFFER GO TO URGERNT CARE OR STLCARDINAL GLENNON AND SAINT LOUIS CHILDRENS HOSPITAL.
