Family of Caring at Tenafly

My wife was seriously ill and hospitalized for over eight weeks last year. We received glowing recommendations from professionals about Family of Caring at Tenafly and upon discharge from the hospital she went there for rehabilitation. We are extremely satisfied about her care. The nursing care has been very attentive and her doctors have been so impressed and “pleasantly shocked” by her remarkable healing progress. The physical, occupational, and speech therapists have been so dedicated to her. They work one on one with her and her progress has been amazing. She has progressed from being bedridden to walking. A nursing home should be a place where you can safely share your loved one and leave most of the heavy lifting to the facility. In general, the family of caring supervisory and general management are NOT equipped to adequately deal with the multitude of issues that affect patients from Parkinson’s, Dementia, Old age ailments, walking and eating issues. Furthermore, their organizational skills leaves a lot to be desired and at times their ability to deal with issues is based on miscommunication and an unacceptable lack of problem-solving skills. CNA staff: On a mostly positive note, this is a group (mostly) that perform duties especially emotional ones that goes way beyond their paygrade and in fact their qualifications. The compassion, patience, and kindness from so many of the staff truly stand out. It’s comforting to know that our family member is surrounded by such wonderful, sweet, and caring people every day. I recently spent time at FOC Tenafly with my loved one, and I have mixed feelings to share. The nursing staff was very good. After some transportation issues were fixed, the care improved a lot. The nurses were kind and attentive, ensuring residents received the help they needed. However, I had a negative experience with the social services team. I felt that I was treated differently and faced some discrimination, which was upsetting. In summary, while the nursing care was excellent, the social services need improvement. It's important for everyone to feel respected and valued. I hope the management addresses these issues for a better experience for all residents and their families.
