Emergency Department - Oconee Memorial Hospital

I had to take my husband to this emergency room on a Saturday morning around 9AM. The woman who checked us in was very kind and since they weren’t busy at that moment, we were fortunate enough to go straight to a room and be seen by a doctor within 30 minutes. The nurse assigned to my husband was Maggee and she was awesome! She checked on him regularly and did everything she could to keep him comfortable until Dr. Barr was available. When he came in, he greeted us and listened to every detail my husband provided about his condition. He was very thorough in explaining how he would treat the symptoms, which medications would be used and what they were for. Very impressive ER! I was treated with such kindness and respect from every staff member I came in contact with. Doctor and nurses were great. I was surprised at the amount of security they had going in, but with the times we are in I understand. I was in and out in a little over one hour. Thanks to everyone who cared for me :)

I was appalled of the unprofessional conduct displayed by the ER supervisor during a recent visit to Prisma Health Oconee ER. When my father arrived unresponsive, instead of being met with empathy and collaboration, my mom was threatened with removal, simply for trying to advocate for his care. Only ask was to let her in the room so she can let the doctor know what happened prior and during his grand mal seizure. One nurse stated he was in a room being assessed and another stated he was still in the ambulance. So, someone was not on the same page if he arrived or not arrived. That probably would have cleared up any confusion if the proper communication was “we will bring you back as soon as he is in a room” but Instead a nurse states, “that’s what the paramedics are for. A tiny cut on my forehead, without stitches needed after a doctor’s diagnosis! A tiny bag ointment about 0.35 oz. And a Tdap shot. Boom, Billing me $849.87 after in network insurance! The whole process took me over 2 hours.

I tend to frequent this establishment very much as it is closer to home, and I have noticed a significant change in the past 4 to 5 years and their efficiency, their kindness, not to mention they have helped be a part of keeping me alive. I know people Get upset about waiting time, and we must always take into account that they see people according to how busy the ER is and if you’re in there for a broken toe and a small child comes in with a heart attack, well, you do the math I think that we should all take into account that these doctors and nurses and everyone that works in this facility is definitely doing their best and that they do a wonderful job at that!
