Elderwood at Wheatfield

Mom has been at this facility for 4 years. The administration is top notch. They are responsive to concerns. There is a challenge with staffing as it seems businesses everywhere have shortages since COVID. However, administration works together as a team. Michelle Hardy, the Director of facility, actually works as an aide when needed. Mom who has dementia lived with me for 3 years. When she needed more help, I placed her here where our family visits 4-5 times per week. We feel this is a good fit and recommend.

Long term care is horrible! If your loved one cant speak for themselves, check on them everyday! Also, go at different times of the day. If they know what time you come they leave the resident in filth until right before you visit. The continual excuse is short staffing. The real issue is lazy staffing that doesnt care. Constant no call no shows especially the day after a Bills game. There are a few truly committed employees that work so hard to pick up the slack. Most of the good employees have left due to no disciplinary action.

If I could give 0 starts I would. Never send a loved one here. Ever. Takes forever to answer a red button call. Soiled clothes thrown on clean clothes. Feces on bed. Didn't even clean it immediately after they were notified by me. Mom fell in bathroom day 2, they didn't tell me. Her roommate told me. Then they said she just had a small bruise on her back. 😡 Feces stuck in her butt that looked old. Diaper rash. They Never showered her even though I said on day 1 she had been in the hospital for 9 days in showered there. They said she needs to tell them she wants a shower, even though I said she has Alzheimer's she can not tell you. Understaffed also. No place should be understaffed and still excepting patients.

This place is absolutely disgusting and a disgrace to health care. My family and many others spend a fortune on a place that doesn’t care about their residents, serves in edible food, and allows residents to go to the hospital due to straight neglect of the care givers. My family member ended up in the hospital due to their lack of care with a 6 inch gash in their forehead and a black eye. I also previously filed a complaint with their “ethics line” more than 2 months ago for their disgusting inedible food and have yet to hear back. Do yourself a favor and do not send your loved ones here or be ready with a lawyer if you do.

Skilled nursing facilities have greatly declined since COVID. Elderwood at Wheatfield is still one of the better ones in Niagara County. Good and reliable help is hard to find and the turnover rate recently has become a problem.
