Elderwood at Hamburg

My aunt was not allowed rehab because she could walk 6 week in a walker so I called Elderwood to let them know as they were waiting for her. There were no rooms available but they were able to quickly accommodate her by setting up a room for the next morning. This was Nov 25 and she was placed in STCU which was a tad dated. 2 weeks ago she got onto the 2nd floor and her room is beautiful, very clean, everyone is so helpful. Tuesday my friend and I brought her blankets which they label for her and cheesecake. I have hospice going in regularly and they call me after each visit and work closely with the facilities physician who make recommendations with each other. So far I have had nothing but a good experience with them.

We placed my mother in Elderwood nursing home, expecting proper care, but experienced consistent issues over eight months. I went everday for 8 months. The food was subpar, unappetizing, tasteless cold and often inedible, leading to choking incidents on bones and paper which led to bringing outside food. I cut the fish out on Fridays do to choking on bone so we would often get whatever they threw on plate, one time it was a cup of mayo and hand full of shredded cheese, mom frequently suffered from dehydration. I would keep drinks in rm and soon as I came in she would drink 5 6 or 7 drinks in 1 shot. There was a lack of communication and rudeness, neglect among staff, treatments or requests would often went undocumented or not read by next shift, residents would wait for hrs to be changed,

Mom stayed at Maelou for 5 weeks of rehab. Rehab technicians were wonderful. Well organized and attentive. The on hand nurses were also fantastic. The nursing management was distant and poorly organized. The administration was terrible. Keep both hands on your wallet and review your bills carefully.

This place is absolutely DISGUSTING! They forgot cleaning is a requirement. The residents are treated poorly. Memory care facility, BULL! Yeah that’s a joke! Anyways if you love your loved one and they need care, DO NOT PUT THEM HERE! Believe the negative reviews! And do not reach out, because I don’t care about giving you any feedback or anything. This place just needs to be shutdown! Cause the price they are charging people for non existent care is outrageous!

Management has a greater responsibility to find staffing and to have proper staffing at all times, including holiday times when people tend to call in sick residents suffer for this for hours they can't get changed. Unbelievable. This is a management thing
