Best experience possible!! I had S1-L5 back surgery on Monday, 11/10/25 with Dr. Gottfried who is awesome. My experience with him and the hospital was absolutely the best I could have ever expected. Hospital staff/nurses and doctors were awesome and very efficient. They explained everything and upon completion moved me into a room 3720, the nurses and medical staff were extremely accommodating. I woke up hungry at 3am and the nurse on duty found me a turkey sandwich and coke! Just super nice and made my recovery smooth. Just wanted to thank everyone on my wonderful experience given the nervousness I had going into the surgery.

My partner has had several occasions to be a patient in Duke Raleigh in the last few years some very serious that required prolonged stays and several procedures. We have always been pleased with the staff and doctors. We had another occasion today for a procedure. The check in was easy and seamless. The staff was very courteous and informative. The wait time was minimal. I was kept informed all along the way. They came for me promptly after he arrived in post op. All the nurses made sure he felt comfortable and were very accommodating to me. They are amazing. The doctor was very informative before and after. The entire staff made the whole process as easy as it could possibly be. Thank you Duke Raleigh

Your nurses need remedial training on IVs!! For them to be doing this everyday it should NOT take over 3 tries to get a line in. It's sad you have all these gadgets to find veins and STILL can't get it in. Soldiers in the military with one days training can do a better job! I strongly recommend having them practice on each other so they know what it feels like getting it slammed in repeatedly and missing the vein. It took 3 different nurses and all of them went on a fishing expedition under the skin which I've never seen before (totally blowing 2 veins btw). One used an ultrasound machine missing over and over again. Your policy should be if you miss 1-2 times you should get an actually experienced nurse to do it so patients don't lose faith in the hospital staffs abilities.

While the main reason for the stay in Duke Raleigh hospital was for an orthopedic surgery which occured flawlessly. I give the surgeon 5 stars which is why we came to Duke. But, I will NEVER come back! The hospital room was ridiculously small. The nurses called it a "short stay room". But we were there for one night which was too long. The room was so small that the slightly overweight nurse almost could not squeeze past the foot of the bed and the monitoring equipment to get to the other side of the bed. The room was probably 8X10. Pain management was pathetic. The pain never dropped below and 8 for the first 24 hours. Pain medicine was only given upon request. Never proactively or asking"how is your pain?" That's fine if you were told in advance that's how it works. When we complained ab

I couldn’t be more upset at your hosp. Before surgery making me stand in line for over 30 mins to check ins After surgery it’s a whole ordeal of asking to use the bathroom. Nurses don’t listen I need bathroom after surgery stop acting like it’s a huge issue and be quiet. And have my meds ready when I’m ready to checkout not make my spouse or me wait an hour.
