DCH Health System: Emergency Room

I went to the ER about two months ago, back to back visits, and one nurse really stood out to me. I believe her name was Kayla (she had on an autism awareness cap for her son). She made me feel so comfortable, especially since I was nervous about needles and she even got me on the first try. She took the time to talk with me about why I was there and shared how she could relate, which was very calming and reassuring. Kayla was extremely caring, attentive, and made sure I had everything I needed.

Waited 5 hours for my friend just to get a few stitches. Ridiculous how long it took when I had to get stitches at a different ER it took less than a hour. It was not very busy not sure what the hell they were doing back there the whole time. Didn’t even get to talk to a doctor until 3 or 4 hours in. Circle K next door was the only saving grace.

Blood on the floor, 5 hours for a CT scan, nurse ate her lunch 3 feet away from us, computers went down. Risk going to bham or call a witch doctor because either are much safer options.

I came in today around 5:30 with excruciating pain in my lower abdomen (I thought my appendix was going to burst), it is now 10:30 and they have yet to even put me in a room!! This is the second time I’ve been in this situation at DCH. The ladies at the front desk are also so rude!

This place is such a nightmare I genuinely have trauma from the long night I spent there in excruciating pain as they just sat behind the desk laughing and gossiping. I will say it’s mostly the check in and waiting part (4+ hours) that was so grueling and the staff lacks so much compassion. I really don’t understand why you would want to work in the ER if you treat sick/in pain people that way. So incredibly disheartening. If you need instant help please do not go here. But after I got in the staff was so incredible; especially in the hospital. They just need to revamp this horrible excuse of an emergency room.
