CSSMCW Emergency Room

I just wanted to say that we really appreciate Windber Hospital. We understand that there are some major changes, and not necessarily good ones down the pipeline. We hope that some one that cares helps this community hospital out. We wanted to thank Dr. Grossman and Dr Hinson , Brenda RN and Pete RN, and Tristen from CT for helping my husband that had a terrible fall and fractured his skull. He was bleeding out and we were literally a block and a half away. It was the best option for the situation. They were able to get the bleeding under control and completely assess him. They really attended to him, while they were very busy, but were able to handle the influx of patients while providing excellent care. Horrible experience start to finish. I went in for breathing issues and specifically told the nurses and doctor my emergency inhalers weren't working. My pulse ox hit 74 at one point but did eventually climb back up. It was obvious I was in distress. The nurses were okay, aside from the one saying she’d rather work at McDonald’s. The doctor, Dr Lavanier, clearly didn’t want to be there. He didn’t listen to anything I said and claimed it was an asthma attack. I disagreed considering my asthma meds didn’t work. When I asked him why this happened he couldn’t offer any sort of explanation. All he said was “your chest xray was clear”. They found a UTI and I was prescribed Bactrim, a medication I told them I was hesitant to take due to issues with it in the past which caused enterocolitis. He sa

Seen on 1/13/26 via ambulance for acute appendicitis. Medical Director was absolutely rude and unprofessional, same with the blonde hair nurse by the name of Kristy. Treated me with no compassion or empathy whatsoever when I came in. I was screaming in pain for help and nobody would come to my aide. Treated me like a child, and scolded me for asking for help for my pain and dehydration. Won’t help me in the bathroom as I was defecating myself and was very weak. Tristen the head nurse was very understanding and nice. The techs in radiology were super nice and helpful. I am absolutely appalled by the nurses behaviors for someone who came in via ambulance in the condition I was in.

Im happy other people had good experiences but mine is quite the opposite. From my visit- Poor bedside manner [read: rude] from the intake nurse. Staff that never check on the patient. Absent doctors. Not being seen for hours once in a room for a possible heart issue while having a history of heart conditions and heart surgery. Also they would not allow me to have a companion in the room without seeing a doctor. It was hours before I saw anyone?! Personally I will never come back by choice.

11/8/2025, Alicia:RN, Lisa:CN,Dr.Paul,also MRI attendant, I forgot her name.. Arrived having significant leg/back pain, walking and general daily tasks was a struggle with tears. Entire staff were Rock Stars, kind, patient, caring, knowledgeable, hence of urgency was enpoint and they showed compassion with what I was dealing with. Arrived in tears and left with a smile and felt so much better. Thank you to all that helped me ..Stacie Robb Gray
