Coastal Pediatric Associates Summerville

This practice has gone downhill since they teamed up with MUSC. When you used to call, a person would answer. Now you have to talk to an Ai robot to get ahold of a person. They also overbook and you have to wait months to get an appointment. The only reason we stay here is because we LOVE our NP Richard Larson. He always offers ideas to help my boys grow physically, mentally, and socially. He’s genuinely concerned with seeing children develop to be strong and healthy. He’s also not pushy if you say you would prefer to not do a treatment/vaccine. He’s great at making my boys feel comfortable at the doctors and makes them laugh. Overall, he is great at what he does and it’s truly his calling.

So frustrated with this place and would give 0 stars if I could!! They will cancel your appointment with no email, text message, or phone call letting you know that’s it been cancelled and then the next available is 2-3 months away. Can’t get in for sick visits!! They have now put my daughter behind on vaccinations. Then asked why my daughter needed an appointment, umm because this is her pediatrician!! Told me that if she needed vaccines I could just go to dhec to get them.🙄😡 very unprofessional!!

My family has been with this practice through years of transitions. It started when my private pediatrician Dr. Harold retired and sold to Seacoast pediatrics. My sister and I (who are now 30 and 37) saw Dr. Shawinsky for years. We lived in Summerville, but our mother would travel to James Island because of how amazing she is. By the time I had children of my own, they were then bought by Coastal pediatrics. It was easy to get in, I was able to have direct contact with the Dr. Etc. But now, TOTALLY different. I belive they except more patients than they can handle. I am a nurse with experience in pediatrics. It is frustrating when I know what is wrong with my child, but the office has ZERO sick visits for over a week or more. Im now forced to take my kids to after hours at musc or urgent c

We recently moved to the area, and my daughter has been seeing Dr. Rutledge. We couldn’t be happier with the care she’s received. Dr. Rutledge is a wonderful physician—kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about pediatric care. She takes the time to listen, explains things clearly, and truly makes both parents and children feel comfortable. We feel very confident having our daughter under her care and highly recommend her.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but I feel very disappointed with how this office handles scheduling. The pediatrician, Dr. Maria, is wonderful — kind, knowledgeable, and caring — but unfortunately the office staff and scheduling system make the experience extremely frustrating. When you call, you have to go through a long automated system only for a real person to come on the line and ask you all the same questions again. It’s time-consuming and inefficient. I tried to schedule appointments for all four of my kids at the same time (which any parent knows is much easier), but the office refused to accommodate that. I was told I could only do two at a time — and even then, the next available appointments were four months away. My baby needs her 4-month well check, but now she won’t be seen
