Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU Children’s Emergency Room

I am sharing my visit late as I was reminded due to a recent GI visit in Charlottesville for my baby yes I had to travel to get help. My son went to VCU ER due to a choking accident only no other issue. They kept him when his breathing was normal and everything was ok just to monitor him I was like weird but ok because I too worked in the medical field and know how the ER operates. Instead we get upstairs and they are now monitoring him for weight! I said what no we have help he has a Gi at st Mary’s and we have a peds visit tomorrow they still kept us even with proof of both appts. They were going to refuse us to leave had I said no and by me going through postpartum and henrico drs I did not want to lose my baby so I obliged but I let everyone know we were forced to stay now it’s finally

Nurses, Doctors and security were very helpful and kind. Only issue was the receptionist that worked that night 12/13. She was very rude in explaining the visitor policy. The other receptionist started to explain to us in a much more nicer way without the attitude. As a I was speaking to my mother in Spanish who doesn’t really understand English she said I was talking about her obviously explaining why she was being rude. Don’t be rude and not expect for the person to be rude back and then get mad.

This place is terrible and really don’t know what they are doing. The doctor did not accurately assess and treat my child causing me to have to go to another E.R. I spent hours there just to have my child not even get in Getting better 48 hours later! Turns out my child needed a steroid for swelling, why wouldn’t be the doctor recommend that? You think you can trust this place but after finding that there was more that my hold needed did treatment, I won’t go back here.

Went through the pediatric ER last night with our 4 year old daughter. I’m always concerned about weekend visits to any health care facility but the care was amazing. Nurses, techs, fellows, doctors… literally everyone was amazing. Very kind and understanding with our daughter being so nervous and scared. Not to mention the facility and rooms were beautiful. Our first time here, hopefully our last, but would definitely give high reviews and a recommendation for anyone in need of their care. Thank you to the whole pediatric ER team!!

My son had the flu and is non-verbal. When we came in Tiffany was the most patient person with him. He has sensory issues and she worked with him to get vitals. Hannah and Tiffany went above and beyond my expectations. They even gave him toys and a lil pig. Best hospital experience I have ever had:
