Catawba Valley Medical Center: Emergency Room

I was having some severe abdominal pain and my pcp was unable to see me for several days. I walked in yesterday morning about 7:30 and after I was checked in, I was immediately taken back to a room. My nurse, Susannah, was so caring and professional. She placed my IV so easily I didn’t even feel it! She drew blood, got some pain meds on board, as well as something for my nausea. Next, I met Todd Pennell, a Nurse Practitioner. His bedside manner was amazing and asked me a lot of questions about what was going on with me and listened carefully. He ordered a CT and an ultrasound and both of those diagnostics were done within 45 minutes. Thankfully, nothing alarming was found and I was sent home with 2 prescriptions for my stomach and now 48 hours later, I am feeling so much better. Every pers

Dr. Harris was so very compassionate. She went above and beyond to help our daughter. The nursing staff and the ultrasound tech all served our daughter with utmost gentleness and kindness. She was in pain. We were distraught. They were here to help. God bless them.

I was seen at this place last nite for breathing issues. I want to give them points for the great job they did..They were very prompt with service. Alexis in the er is an awesome nurse..Very attentive to the patient....I high recommended this er ..

I'll try to keep it straightforward: 1. Wait time was crazy, 7 hours, and it was very uncomfortable with almost no chairs and no wheelchairs left—though it was absurdly busy, it feels like something is very wrong. At least the other people in waiting room were pleasant enough, but it definitely felt like a local 24-hour Urgent Care is missing. I can't believe there are 2 hospitals within such a short distance of Hickory, yet this level of dysfunction 2. Like other people have said this place seems to have severe issues prioritizing care and patient needs. Again, maybe other 24-hour clinics around might help that as well, but I'm not sure what's going on here. At least, I did see that the SEVERE ambulance may-be-dead-soon cases here did get addressed fast... but next to the same triage ro

Six and a half hours. Not any help at all. Testing my girlfriend for uterine cancer when we need to see if she has kidney stones. They made her get naked then left for an hour. It was an hour in between each and every time we saw someone whether for 2 seconds or longer. The room is dirty and the waiting room seems as though it’s a lottery on who is going to actually see a doctor. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone at all no matter what. The disorganization and lack of care for patients is insane.
