Avian & Exotic Medical Center

Dr. Dahlhausen and the staff at Avian & Exotic Medical Center have been a blessing to me and my exotics since 1998. Dr. Cummins joined the practice a couple of years ago. Dr. Dahlhausen has been, is, and remains a global, positive, and effectual influence on the research, clinical studies, animal care that help improve animals and animal caregivers' lives. He and his staff have been with me and mine through the good and the challenging for 27+ years. Grateful beyond measure.

Brought our hamster here after being referred by our primary veterinarian. He had an area that was losing fur, thought that he possibly had ringworm or a fungal infection. Fortunately he did not have either of those things and it looks like an allergic reaction to something. Our hamster did leave this office with broken front leg! There was absolutely nothing wrong with any of his limbs before our visit to this office as we were there for a skin issue. They took ZERO responsibility for the injury that he obviously received in their care, denied that anything happened and made multiple attempts to put the blame on us like we knew he had a broken leg and just didn't tell them. I dropped him off before 11am, I called around 2pm for an update and was told that he was limping and had a possible

Very friendly staff and Dr, were very knowledgeable about my little guy. Everything was explained to where I could understand and answered all my questions. They were kind and patient with me when I broke down after hearing bad news, said they would provide care to the best of their ability with what decisions my husband and I made. This office will for sure be our long term Avian doctor!

Full disclosure: I have only spoken to this center on the phone, but the experience was alarming enough that I will be taking my rabbit elsewhere for his neuter. The friendly receptionist was unfortunately uninformed about pre-and post-surgery feeding instructions for a rabbit. When asked, she told me they do not offer the rabbits food before or after surgery and in addition suggested that I do not offer the rabbit food the whole morning leading up to surgery. Rabbits are very susceptible to GI stasis which leads to death in a number of hours--they should never EVER be denied access to fresh hay in particular leading up to and directly following a stressful event like a surgery.

Had one of our bearded dragons, under a year old, that was getting more and more lethargic and sick. Stopped eating for days at a time and it was notnot brumation. In just a few minutes the doctor said he was over all healthy but maybe had some parasites going rampant. Gave some medicine and some supplements for omniviores that we have been giving him 2 times a day as well as some slight assisted feeding of veggies and insects. Its been 2 weeks and our little guy isnt moving as slowly and is eating on is own again! The price was reasonable considering. He even said we dont need to do an exam for the other 2 dragons to just bring them up and have them dewormed that will save us a bunch of cash. he will be our Herp doctor for a long time!
