Autumn Lake Healthcare at Patuxent River

I was extremely disappointed when I arrived at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Patuxent River to visit my sister. She had just been discharged from Johns Hopkins after being in a medical coma for three weeks and recovering from several newly diagnosed medical conditions. As a result of her illness, she experienced memory loss, mobility limitations, and other ongoing medical issues. This entire situation has been a nightmare for our family. After being hospitalized at Johns Hopkins for approximately a month and a half, our family selected Autumn Lake Healthcare at Patuxent River for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, our experience has been deeply concerning. I believe that on the night of her arrival, my sister expressed that she wanted to return to the hospital. This is the first day at the facility for my family member whom was placed here for rehab after a hip replacement. It is very clean, staff seem to be friendly. My only complaint is the fact that the staff takes so long to respond to the patients. My family member whom is of sound mine had a BM and and rang the bell at 4:15. It took someone 15 minutes to respond for us to be told that someone would be in to take care of him. I waited 15 more minutes b4 I had to leave. I had a 25 minute ride home and he still had not been cleaned at 5:15. He rang the bell again and still no one came. At 6:20 he was told that they could not clean him up during dinner time. Update : Given our bad experience the center was quick to satisfactorily respond. No place is perfect but it’s important how they act on complaints and so far I’m very pleased. Changing the rating from one to four based on their response. My mother was admitted yesterday evening for short term rehab and it was a horrible experience. When she arrived the room she was assigned was dirty, the bed didn’t work, and had no sheets. When they finally got it to work the staff acted as though they were being inconvenienced. We left her there with a very uncomfortable feeling and unless they can somehow redeem themselves, we’ll be looking for a new facility. I'm a food delivery driver who came to the facility to drop off food to a patient. There's no sign up that says "When you push the button, wait for somebody to buzz you in". It just says to push the button after hours. I push the button a few times then check the doors and they were still locked, so I pushed again and a lady screamed "OPEN THE DOOR". The yelling was crazy. Then I go and deliver the food to the patient and try to get out and I'm locked in. It says to push a button after hours to be released. I push the button for well over 25 minutes and absolutely nobody let me out. I kept checking the doors and I'm locked in. The staff completely ignored me. I was one step from calling 911. The staff are very pleasant. On my first visit I miss visiting hours by a minute or so and they were very nice to let me just poke my head in to visit with a friend for a few minutes. The place is very clean and everyone I encountered were extremely nice. The patients all look happy and well cared for.
