Autumn Care of Mechanicsville

Today is my mother’s second day.Its a nice clean facility. It doesn’t smell like the others. The residence they seem to be at peace with being there a lot of common areas for them just to sit and watch TV. They have a room for arts and craft. It just has a touch of home. The rooms are nice it just feels cozy. Even the outside is nice with good parking. Plus the staff is also friendly.

The staff is extremely nice. They treat my father with so much kindness, even when he has his grumpy moods. I highly recommend this place to anyone! Very nervous at first with having my dad come here because the last facility he was at wasn't very kind. So I am thrilled he was able to come here.

My family and I had an extremely disappointing first experience at this facility. We arrived at 8:00 PM on my husband’s first day of admission after driving 45 minutes to see him. He is critically ill and this was our first opportunity to see him in a few days since his transfer. We weren’t going to be long and just wanted to stop by to give his belongings from home. Instead of being met with empathy or even basic courtesy, we were abruptly told by Ashley that visiting hours ended at 7:00 PM and that we had to leave immediately. She said we could not see him at all and we had to beg her. No flexibility, no compassion, and no effort to acknowledge the seriousness of my husband’s condition or the fact that this was his first night in the facility. We had to beg to see him for a few minutes.

We came here at 8PM after my father had been admitted here. It was our first time here and it took 45 minutes to get here. Ashley told us “sorry we changed the visiting hours to 7PM and you have to leave”. I said how are we going to know the rules if this is our first time? She said I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I had to beg her to see my father after he had been in ICU critically ill. After begging, she said “I’ll give you 15 minutes but I’m coming back at 8:30pm to get you”. We could not enter the room right at 8PM as we had to wait for the other nurse to clean my father. We entered the room at 8:23PM. Ashley comes back in the room at 8:30PM and said we have to leave. I told her you didn’t give us the full 15 minutes because a nurse was in here, we only got 7 minutes with him.

My Mom has been there 2 weeks and overall it has been a good experience. It took a few days for all to adjust to one another - Mom is a quite complicated case - but they’ve done a good job getting to know her and providing PT, OT and other mental stimulation. Victoria has been especially kind and helpful. She seems very conscientious. Facility is very clean.
