Walnut Hill Pasadena Optometrics

My son has been seen by both Dr. Shem and Dr. Phifer at Walnut Hill. We’ve like them both! My six year old seemed to click with Dr. Phifer in particular. We also really like the office staff, especially Sierra. My son is really rough on his glasses and has broken many pairs previously. It’s helpful that Walnut Hill carries the kids brand Tomato, which is more durable than typical frames. I find it’s easy to get an appointment quickly at their office, unlike some offices.

If they hadn't insisted on a retinal scan, I never would have found out that my right eye had had a stroke (internal bleeding). They are professionals, but yeah, they should always tell you if a service will be out of pocket.

Wendy and her assistant were amazing with my non verbal adult. I was so happy they had patience and an early appointment to make it easier for Natasha. She has so many great ways to help test non- verbal patients . Thank you Dana Marie

Terrible service, kind of extortionist. You ask for one thing (in my case a contact lens prescription) and they force you to take a whole new exam you never asked for that you have to pay for out-of-pocket. When I asked why they insist on this even though my insurance (and previous optometrists) have only ever recommended once a year, and my previous exam was fine, they said, "That's the doctor's rules." So take that as you will.

Loved how Dr. Phifer took the time to find a great monovision contact option for me and explained how the glasses to contact prescriptions work. Also appreciated how Maureen heard me and showed me the right frames for the look and price range I was comfortable with. Wonderful optometrist practice!
