UVA Health UVA Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Clinic

This is the worst departmentment at UVA I have ever encountered. The staff member who did my initial interview was unprofessional and did not document my health status properly. It took close to a month to straighten out. Go elsewhere!

I honestly dont know how they talk so negative about this hospital. My experience has been amazing and dont regret so far that I chose them for my bariatric journey.. im looking forward to it hope everything goes well. The only nurse I really dont like here because she seems to not like anybody is Kaitlyn I do love Melinda Jenkins she is really nice and helpful and the nurses over the endoscopy side are really nice too! ☺️

Mortality specialist referred me because of my gastroparesis went through all their exams tests and requirements for insurance Even went to obgyn so they could tell them my iron deficiency was not caused by my uterus after they told me they would do my surgery 3 months later came back to tell me they won't do my surgery because of my gastroparesis iron deficiency and unexplained weight loss for weight loss surgery. Don't waste your time worse doctor's ever and the nursing staff makes everyone feel like they have an eating disorder so they can refer you to another counselor. They tell you they want you to be honest and then use your words against you.

My doctor referred me there because they publish a regular newsletter how they have treated many bariatric patients with micronutrient issues. I am one such person who many doctors have said I suffer malnutrition because of my gastric surgery. While they represent themselves as wanting to help those with absorption problems, when your doctor referrres you and many other doctors recommend them, they refuse to see you. Then they post an adverse event in your medical record for all other doctor to see. Stay away....

I started going to the Bari Clinic after seeing a nutritionist for my weight issue for 5 months. I was doing everything right and still no losing the weight. The Bari clinic followed me closely and even being shown what I eat, I was still gaining instead of losing. I don't eat fast food or a lot of junk and after doing everything possible, such as exercising almost three hours a day, five days a week, it was decided that I should have the surgery. I'm scheduled soon and look forward to it. Moral of the story: Don't judge a person with weight issues and assume they eat all junk food and fast food and are lazy. People couldn't be more wrong about the majority of obese people.
