UTMB Health Pediatric Primary Care, Clear Lake

We are so grateful for Dr. Kimble and Dr. Thomas. They are both incredibly thorough and kind, always taking the time to truly listen and answer our questions. Consistently follows up and makes sure our children are well cared for, which gives us so much peace of mind. It’s clear the office stays up to date on the most current recommendations, and we really appreciate how they explains things in a way that makes sense. It’s a blessing to have a pediatricians who not only provides excellent medical care but also genuinely cares for their patients and their families.

We love seeing Dr. Thomas. She is so knowledgeable, kind, and professional. The MA that works with her is also incredibly patient with our little boy.

Pros: We have seen several doctors at the clinic and they are all fantastic - Dr. Kimble, Dr. Thomas, and most recently Dr. Bell. Usually they are running on time and the wait is minimal. The nurses and other staff are friendly and work well with children. The people are truly why we keep coming back! Cons: The parking situation is not great. Often we have to circle the parking lot and end up parking off property and walking. The rooms also seem a bit dated and maybe due for a deep clean.

The doctors in this office are great and deserve 5 stars. However, since UTMB took over the billing for basic child medical services has skyrocketed. My son had a flu and strep test run in house. Simple swabs with results available in minutes. I received a bill for over $300. These test kits cost $15 to $20. I called UTMB and was told they would review this and still got the same outrageous bill 30 days later. I would have been better off taking him anywhere else rather than his doctor since birth. In years past these tests would cost an additional $30 to $40 after to office visit fee. This is unacceptable and the office will be losing patients of 8+ years.

For the doctors, I give them 5 stars!! They are out of this world. I have held my patience far to long. I have been with this clinic for 12 years and have never experienced such difficulty with the children's clinic until UTMB took over. I can't call the office, instead I get transferred to some call center and try to deal with everything through them, and sit and wait for reply's hoping the monkey in the middle transferred my message correctly. UTMB showed up and has made everything more difficult. I'm always on 15-20+ minute holds, and the answering service makes me feel like I'm talking to a robot. I have to do this every month for my daughters medicine refill and I'm tired of it.
