I don't know if they're understaffed or what, but you will either stay on hold for hours or when you get a call back, the line will disconnect. The care team at the U is good, but the front desk is non existant. And to get results from tests it takes longer than promised.

I was seen at the UofU gastroenterology clinic and I have been incredibly disappointed with the treatment that I received there. Between scheduling issues, issues with treatment, and being told they were too expensive for me, I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. I’ve written my full experience below: I was originally referred due to some complicated health issues and my primary care provider thought it would be good to go to a clinic associated with a research hospital. I originally scheduled an appointment for three months in the future. Two weeks before my appointment, my pcp’s office received notice that my referral had been closed since I had not rescheduled my appointment. Have to have a referral even if your insurance doesn’t require it to schedule an appointment. If you’re lucky you might be able to get an appointment with a P.A or N.P. within a couple of months. Any procedures will be with a doctor that you’ve never met prior to the procedure. If you’re sedated, it could very well be a student that performs the procedure. I am trying to transition away from the U of U as much as I can for my medical needs. Scheduling is a hassle and health care quality is minimal at best.

I have never been treated so poorly at a facility. The head of the endoscopy department, Doug, (or at least he said he was the head but he was a nurse so I’m not positive if that’s even true) shut me in a room with him alone and berated me For Declining receiving fentanyl for my procedure. He ended up yelling at me to the point where my Father, I retired medical malpractice attorney, Advised me to pack my things up and leave because he was scared for my well-being. Do not go there if you value your safety as a patient

I just got off the phone with someone from The University of Utah gastroenterology. I tried to check on my appointment for a procedure I need done . I was rudely informed that it will take awhile. I was told by my Dr. I need this procedure to be done ASAP. When a patient hears the words biopsy and cancer there is anxiety. There was rudeness and a total lack of compassion. I dearly hope this is not the attitude of the Dr's doing the procedure. I'm very concerned.
