A good hospital, there are young doctors with a very high level of knowledge and practice in emergency care. But there are several problems with social workers. There is no communication at all between the doctor and the social worker. Several times it happened that the doctor prescribes treatment, the medical staff carries out this treatment and then the social worker comes running in the evening or after lunch and says that you are being discharged today!!! You say that this cannot be because intensive treatment has been started, a medical corset has been ordered for the injured area of the back, you need to wait 2-3 days otherwise the elderly person's spine will not withstand the load, and the social worker says - I did not know this and leaves with the words "I will go and find out n

St Mary’s is lacking in compassionate care - lazy, disgruntled staff. Post stroke , ER and Inpatient care was horrid - the social workers communicate poorly and discharge planning was sloppy and swift, only thing we could do was avoid letting First Responders take fam member here - Any other ER but here is all we could do next time.

I went to ucsf for an annual/routine physical, blood work, and std test. They sent me a bill for over $4,000! Every time I and my insurance try calling their billing department, they do not answer the phone. This is obvious unbundling and upcoding. It is fraudulent, and unless resolved immediately will result in legal action against the hospital. Watch out everyone, you'll get a $4,000+ bill for routine annual check ups from this place. FRAUD Update: their billing department is now harassing me while my insurance company appeals the bill. They sent me a text message and email on Sunday and then 5 days later sent me a letter saying that says I owe the full amount (they charged over $2,500 for a routine blood test). I am looking for an attorney to sue them.

Back in April 2025 my 4 year old had stomach pain and we went to St. Mary's Hospital ER on Stanyan St. for care. We were turned away because the doctor/nurse there said they did not have the proper equipment available to treat minors. That was odd because we were there the year before and they took us in. The visit in April 2025 literally took less than 5 minutes because we had to go to UCSF Children Hospital's ER to get seen, which we did and was rightfully charged for ER services there. Funny thing is that my child recovered and the pain went away while we waited at UCSF Children's Hospital ER. I think it was eating too fast and poor hand hygiene. We contemplated leaving after we waited for two hours but decided to hang in there to see a doctor. There was no diagnosis, just keep an eye

Unfortunately, I have to echo earlier comments about the poor quality of care at this facility, even though St. Mary's is managed under UCSF. The nurses seem distracted, often taking an hour or more to respond after doctors place orders. The front desk staff are consistently rude and dismissive. We waited a total of six hours, during which nurses could be heard behind the door ignoring the continuous EKG alarm instead of reconnecting the cord. Meanwhile, they stood in the hallway complaining about the new computer system instead of attending to patients. To top everything up, they have only one, I repeat, only one doctor for all the patients there!!!! My mom was brought there via 911 ambulance with cardiac arrest symptoms without any history. They didn’t ask what medications she was takin
