Susan A. McManus, MD FACS

Dr. McManus has an excellent team of nurses and staff who are supportive and attentive. She however seems to be overbooked and was not thorough in her care for my breast cancer. She overlooked many parts of my care and she did not view my as a whole person - mind, body, and soul... She was inaccessible and when I finally spoke to her on the phone about a week prior to my breast surgery she did not give clear recommendation to what type of surgical procedure I should have (lumpectomy vs. mastectomy). Patient education is not her forte therefore if you are looking to make an informed decision based on doctor expertise and opinions, I would not recommend her. She saved my life 14 years ago. I could not get in with other places for months. I got a hold of her and got an important immediately. Her staff was amazing with getting me in and understanding how scared I was , just had a baby. Dr McManus looked at everything and said I can tell you it’s cancer. She had an opening 2 days later for surgery. She said we can wait until Friday to get your biopsy back or I can have it out by Thursday. Husband and I opted for Thursday. My cancer was the size of a pea but had already spread. I had to go thru chemo and radiation and I am here today because of her and I owe my life to her!!!! Thank you, my family and I will never forget you!

Dr. McManus is the most kind, caring and understanding specialist I ever met. The minute she checked me she comfort me so much with her kind word which I will never forget was “ kiddo you r not going anywhere” It gives me so much hope and positive energy to deal with my problem. I love the way she treat her patients with so much love and dedication. The staff is very friendly and good, I really really like her idea to have Jesus Christ on each and every exam room’s wall. I’m a big believer in God I have faith in his mercy, seeing him there gives me positive vibes ! I had surgery yesterday. Dr. McManus is first class all the way. I come from a family of medical professionals, including a retired top breast surgeon, who fully endorsed her recommendations. I knew right away upon meeting Dr. McManus that I was in the right hands- she knew exactly what the problem was, although my situation is not commonly seen. She is efficient, thorough, and realistic. If you are her patient, rest assured, you are in the right hands. I see a couple of 1-star reviews about not getting enough 1:1 with her or something to that effect. Dr. McManus had a kindly demeanor until I asked her a question about one of the metrics that was a part of my diagnosis. She then became testy and said "No.I am not going to turn this into a pathology lesson." Later, when I read about this metric (Nottingham score), I realized that her knowledge of it was incomplete, and that that was probably why she had reacted the way that she did. She did not inform me of all of the treatment options that are available.
