Sturdy Memorial Hospital (non-Emergency Room)

Sturdy doctors discharged my elderly father after a major stroke by ambulance and left him at an abandoned house in the 20 degree weather with no food, water, or coat. He cannot walk or use a phone but was thankfully able to use his voice to call family and be rescued. In December 2025 my father had a major stroke. He had no use of the left side of his body. He was admitted to Sturdy. When he was discharged home, we had serious concerns since he could not walk, toilet himself, dress, eat on his own, etc. he was re-admitted to Sturdy after 3 days home for MRSA. Recently visited the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Emergency Department with a family member. Upon arrival I was happy to see there is now a valet service. When we were done and about to leave I followed the procedure to request my car by text as they directed. I could see my car parked right near the valley stand but I needed the keys, obviously, and there was no valet anywhere in sight. Five to seven minutes later and still no valet at the stand so I re-entered the hospital and inquired at the security desk about the missing valet. They assured me that he was likely just parking a car. Fifteen minutes after requesting my car to take my 87 year old patient home, still no valet in sight. So we decided to check his key box. I get no one likes hospitals in general, or at times thr bad news. I need to give a shout out to the Sturdy day surgery team fir taking care of my friend Ashley for her neck surgery, and keeping her spirits high. Personally I need to give a huge shout out to the GI team with Dr. Cohen. If you need a GI team they are amazing. We may not like all the tears, bad news etc. the best thing is not being scared of any diagnosis, but ask “what can we do to correct it?”

Unfortunately, I have had surgeries all over metro west but Sturdy blew me away. The people are beyond helpful, from those who find you wandering lost in the halls to the nurses and doctors. And the support staff is especially amazing. The facilities are top notch and everything was modern and pristine, but the people are the shining star. They spent whatever time was needed, they listened and provided some much needed comfort. Hospitals are all the same, but it's the staff that makes the difference and that's what makes Sturdy so wonderful.

I’ve had two operations, a couple procedures, and both of my kids were born here. The nurses, doctors, etc are great! The bedside manner is awesome! Food is good. That said, I give it a three because the admin employees, receptionists, etc. are rude and I’ve never had a pleasant experience checking in, asking for directions, etc. but once you get past them, the medical help, nurses, including x-ray and ultrasound techs are great!
