St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital: Emergency Room

Staff were very caring and compassionate. I came here after sitting at the Brighton location for over two hours without a single person to access my open and bleeding puncture wounds. Howell was like walking into a different world- they got me in right away and immediately started treatment, the whole staff was friendly and you can tell they actually care about you and your health.

The staff here is exceptional. I took my very ill brother here and from the very beginning the care was superb. The staff was all very caring, helpful and knowledgeable. They really listened to me and my brother about his medical history and current symptoms and provided care appropriately. If I could give Shelby RN and Ryan PA a million stars l would. We are so lucky to have this ER in our community and all the wonderful people that work there. Thanks again you are all so appreciated.

Came in yesterday morning, didn't know what day it was, had a fever of 100° and had been vomiting 5 days straight. The nursed I worked with were so kind, I feel bad I can't remember all of their names but Nurse Patty, Dr. Jordan Sell, and the ultrasound tech, Brenda were all so helpful in making a very scary first experience going to an ER into something that made me feel safe and better out the door. I had felt like it wasn't appropriate for me to be there since I wasn't actively dying, but they all reassured me and made me feel welcomed and cared for. Thank you very much for helping me feel so much better.

The staff showed lack of compassion, empathy and even more patience. The nurse had an extremely poor bedside manner and very bluntly acted like I was an inconvenience for her. As I was starting to get discharged, I asked the nurse if I could see the Dr for maybe 1 or 2 minutes, because I had a question before I left. She stated she could answer my questions because he had already moved on to the next patient & didn't have 1-2 minutes to talk to me even on an emergency basis. The nurse isn't the Dr and had an ego and was obviously on a power trip. I was livid when I left because my health was blown off. Once the nurse very roughly ripped out my catheter, I absolutely did tell her she picked the wrong career and she should be ashamed of her cold/poor disposition dealing with sick people.

MATTHEW RAUCH, NP does not care about his patients. I came in with physical issues as well actively in a mental health crisis. I was sobbing and begging for help. I said I was in a mental health crisis to nurses and him. This was the SECOND visit in 2 days because they want to pump you full of fluids and discharge you. I had to get into a yelling match with him in the hallway and take my own IV out (all he said was to not do that because he didn’t want blood to get anywhere) all of that for him to get a social worker for me to speak to. He would not admit me unless I said I was suicidal or homicidal. He also said a social worker wouldn’t talk to me because I’m not admitted. After all of that a sweet nurse had to give me even more meds to calm me down. I talked to the social worker and she
