Sentara Medical Group Lab

I arrived at 9:00 AM at the Sentara outpatient lab on Glenn Mitchell Drive after working a night shift, needing bloodwork completed for an upcoming procedure. The waiting room was completely packed — and I mean completely. There was nowhere to sit. I was given a card after providing basic information but was not informed that appointments were even an option. This has never been clearly communicated by Sentara, and it would have significantly changed my decision to walk in. What was most concerning was observing staff discontinue calling patients while they stood behind the booths chatting, despite a full waiting room. I understand that workplace communication is part of any job, but when patients are standing with no seating available and clearly waiting to be called, patient flow should

Sentara needs to do better. A 2 hour wait to have lab work is ridiculous. The registration supervisor asked me to move because I was standing “to close” to the registration cubes, but the waiting room is full?? The cube I was standing in front of was never occupied. At no time were all the registration cubes occupied. I’m not sure if this is a staffing issue but still no excuse for such poor service.

I rarely give poor reviews, and I understand that medical offices of every type are very hectic places. That being said, i still gave the Lab at Glenn Mitchell one star. The wait is long, no big deal, but when you have to repeat labwork 3 weeks in a row because "they didn't get enough blood" is ridiculous. I even explained the second time that it was a re-draw and to please make sure she draws enough blood. She assured me she did, but... An hour to an hour and a half each visit, taking off work to do it, not cool. I recommend chosing a different lab than this one.

How? How is this sooooooo expensive yet soooo slow, rude, uncaring, just all around unprofessional. No one has any sense of urgency or empathy for any of the people here.

Worst experience. Waited over an hour just to register. Once I registered Labs called me within 5 minutes. I commented that I expected it to be busy since I waited over an hour and she commented she couldn't imagine why I had to wait so long. I guess registration needs more help or to move faster. The lady who registered me said it was because of priority registration. So walkins wait until last to be registered and the labs people and standing around. Doesn't make sense. Something needs to change!
