Select Specialty Hospital Not the best place for anybody whose loved ones have limited transportation issues. When a patient is immobile one would think that this facility would be less RIGID about their visiting policy. I found their treatment of a patient not exactly brilliant. When a patient is competent but non vocal because of tracheostomies or other injuries, there would be some general consensus to handle them with RESPECT and care, I didn’t find that to be true at all. It was a full week before a close relative to could get to that patient and once there found the patient to be frightened and miserable. I wondered what the admission process is like for these types of patients because they are handled like packages rather than like people with feelings. I know pain mean
My father spent five weeks at this specialty hospital after a lengthy ICU stay. During that time, he lost his wife of 48 years. Given the circumstances, we hoped for compassion, but too often it was missing. One nurse, Gail, regularly made us feel like an inconvenience. She refused to help my father out of bed one weekend, telling him he’d have to wait until Monday and he’d be in a rehab center soon, leaving him in bed for 3 days. Luckily, Kim was able to get him out of bed. On another morning, Gail told him she was too busy to bring water. When I arrived over two hours later, he still had none. Another nurse, Ebony?, was frequently rude and confrontational. Family members were yelled at over confusion regarding my father’s mitts, and a simple misunderstanding turned into an unnecessary
On October 14th, my dad suffered a massive brain bleed. He was sent to Select after a month with a trach, on the vent, and with a feeding tube in his stomach. I will start with the good - CNA Justin, Toya, and Maria were *incredible*. Went above and beyond. I think we told Justin more than once that we think he could run the place on his own. Their demeanor and genuine care for my dad and for us was unlike anything we had experienced, and they deserve all of the praise. The biggest advice I can offer is that if you are able to be there by your loved one’s bedside, please, please, please do. We had someone there from 10am-8pm every single day for a month and still received subpar care, and even that is a stretch. There was not one night where we felt comfortable in the care he was receivi
Select Specialty Hospital is not a place I would recommend sending your love ones to. My dad was transferred here and immediately his health started declining. He had only been there for a few days and they let him die here. I have never heard of a hospital turn away EMS. If there was nothing else you could do why wouldn’t you allow EMS to provide their care. Awful place to be. Please whatever you do, do not transfer your love ones here. They did not follow proper protocol and because of that my dad died. Even when I arrived I noticed suspicious behavior from the medical staff supposedly caring for my dad. Whatever they have done in the dark will be brought to light and Justice will be served for my dad. Gross negligence. These are not professionals, and they need to do better. I can’t wai
The Select Specialty staff is incredible; from the nurses, to the respiratory team, PT/OT, food service, case workers - everyone! Every staff member was great to work with and provided top notch care for my mom. The consistency between shifts/workers was phenomenal. We knew no matter who was there, that she was receiving the same high level of care. The doctors, supervisors and case workers communicated in a timely manner with my mom and my family. Everyone was very professional and compassionate. It is clear the people that work at Select Specialty WANT to be there. They're good at what they do and my family will be forever grateful for them.
