If you have an elderly parent do not bring them the RWJ new brunswick. My father needed open heart surgery and the surgeon was fantastic but the recovery care afterwards was terrible!! The nurses in the cardiac ICU, some fantastic and the others terrible. They talk in the hallway instead of helping patients that desperately need help. As a patient, if you dont have a family member to advocate for you, you may just die. The 2nd floor cardiac nurses had the same issues. Either fantastic or absolutely rude and lazy. My father had a terrible time recovering and the surgeon told him what he needs to do but when you have a nurse assigned to you that doesn't want to do her job, it compromises the health of the patient. I had to pull him out of the hospital because they were not there to help th
I was here for about 5 days. Throughout my entire time here, I was met with phenomenal, kind, supportive staff. My nurses were gentle and understood my fears, my surgeons explained things to me before and after the surgery, staff were helpful directing my mom through the building, etc. I was in the pediatric unit for adolescents (though I later got moved to the baby/toddler floor) Childlife really helped me feel a little more at home. I was able to bond with the staff, color, paint, play video games, do origami, play videogames, and talk about my nerves or even just about things I liked. It really helped with my anxiety surrounding the surgery, and gave me something to look forward to. The TVs in my room didn’t work, so they handed me an iPad with Disney+, which I got to bring with me on
My father received treatment in the emergency trauma area. There was a ridiculous amount of patients in the hallways, more than any other hospital I have ever seen. Personally I think it took way too long to get into a room especially when you are a patient with multiple broken bones. The nurses were very helpful & kind which I am thankful for all of their help. The surgeons were excellent & the waiting area for surgery was comfortable w singular comfy chairs or tables with a variety of things to eat or relax. I was grateful for their surgery timeline tv on the wall & the surgeons calling to say how everything went during the procedure. A nice variety of food in their sit down cafeteria, and they also have a large Starbucks area with large tables. The nurses helped my father and did an gre
The scheduling staff for the Ob/Gyn department is a mess. After asking for an appointment with a specific MD, I was scheduled to see another doctor which was not communicated. When I called, I was told excuses along the lines of "that can happen when the doctor calls out that day." Let's say that was the case, it would be the least to notify me about that upfront. At the very least, I would want to be informed and get the chance to decide what to do next. Knowing the wait times for an Ob/Gyn appts. I had called back in early December due to insurance reasons. It's February now, and I will have to cancel my appointment as it's not with the specialist I clearly asked to see. When I sought to work out something on the phone this morning, I was informed that the lady could not "access the MD's
"Academic Research Hospital" Failed Basic Emergency Care - Destroyed Patient Hope My 82-year-old mother was admitted to Robert Wood Johnson New Brunswick with a failed laminectomy, spinal stenosis, and neurogenic claudication causing extreme burning pain in her legs. We chose this hospital specifically because it advertises itself as an academic research hospital specializing in spine, neurology, and geriatrics. What happened instead: 48-Hour ER Wait - No imaging done despite orders. Developed urinary retention requiring catheterization. Still no MRI of spine after 60+ hours. Hope Destroyed - An unknown physician (not orthopedics, not neurosurgery) physically grabbed my mother's feet to ensure eye contact, looked directly at her, and stated: "You will never walk out of here better than
