Let me start by saying the nursing staff in the ICU at HCA Fawcett Hospital all seem to be genuinely caring and competent. However, the lack of ethical behavior on behalf of the heart surgeon and his assistant is beyond unacceptable. Dr Martinez is the heart surgeon who, I believe, misled my 84 year old stepfather into opting for multiple bypass surgery. He gave him a 25% chance of not surviving surgery but at the same time told him he’s done the procedure successfully many times on worse candidates. That’s my issue with him. I feel he misrepresented the facts which skewed my step father’s decision. Now, my biggest disappointment is how his assistant, Rick (Richard Jackson), handled the entire situation.
