Providence Alaska Children's Hospital - Pediatric Gastroenterology

Review is for office staff with which I have been very disappointed in with my last few interactions. After we sat in our Telehealth "waiting room" for 30 min, I called the office to ask what was up - they were rude with no offer of solution for our appt. Called office to make an appt for my daughter in person today and was accused of repeated no shows and missed appts. Now have to redo her referral in order to even make an appt to get her in. Very unprofessional. If not for the fact that Dr. Malandra is wonderful and my daughter trusts him I would be looking for a new GI.

My daughter has been suffering with tummy issues her whole life. We have been to many doctors. Dr. Malandra was able to give us a diagnosis after he did an endoscopy. We finally have some answers. Also, he didn’t just give up, even after he found something. He continued to have her tested for other things and ended up finding a secondary issue. He has an amazing bedside manner and my daughter loves him. He has continued to see her, even after she turned 18 because we were in the middle of learning how to live with these new illnesses. He’s wonderful.

Our appointment was at 3pm. We arrived and checked in 30 minutes early. We were left waiting in the exam room for an hour with no communication. When I asked how much longer it would be the nurse just said it wouldn’t be too much longer. We waited another 15 minutes when the MD finally came in. Then spent 13 minutes and wanted to put my daughter on 2 medications without any tests. When he left room it we were left waiting another 15 minutes no knowing what we were to be waiting for. We finally just left without any of the labs or prescriptions he talked about. I work with patients at a clinic and we would never leave someone just sitting in an exam room with no communication that the provider is running behind. This was very unprofessional and disappointing.

Dr. Malandra is amazing. Our son was very nervous about discussing his gut problems and the doc was so wonderful and put him at ease. He took his time and was very thorough. Front office and nurse were great. Not sure why so many bad reviews but I think it was from a previous doctor.

Since this office added a new physician Dr. Malandra the office feels very upbeat. The staff is caring and goes above and beyond for my children’s needs, the doctor is very tentative to my concerns about my child. I will def be coming back and will let my other momma friends know about this clinic.
