The doctors and staff are good, and patients receive good care. It's the slow liver transplant process that only gets 3 stars, even less. Wait times are too long and based solely or, at least, primarily on a MELD score that doesn't tell the whole story. When you're really sick but strong enough for a transplant, you have to wait because the MELD score says you're not sick enough. Then you become too sick for a transplant. Even a cancer developing in the liver doesn't seem to speed up the process. First, the cancer has to grow to a certain size before they will treat it. After about 3 months, they finally treat the cancer, then follow-up with at least 2 scans (the first after 3 months and the second 3 months after that) before they elevate a patient up on the transplant list. We had a liver transplant 9 weeks ago. While hard, we absolutely loved our village of nurses, doctors and all medical staff that took care of us! Under the circumstances, it was the best experience we could have.

Omg, I cannot express how happy we are with Dr. Gibney! He quickly became my favorite Dr of all time. His bedside manner is absolutely wonderful. The whole staff on the transplant floor were wonderful!!!

Had to sit the er without treatment for 3 days and then was put in the Infection ward for an internal infection. Than anytime I wasn't on npo I never got food and would have to send the nurses that we're constantly swearing and on there phones to find my lunch plate that supposedly was supposed to be given out at 3. These were words from both nurses and even the food management to get my lunch at 7 to then get dinner at 8:30 when it didnt matter. Besides the main doctors taking care of the patients how they are supposed to no one here seems to really care about if you're dying or not like I am for there to be only 2 transplant clinics for what I need its very disgusting and disrespectful.

The staff here takes very good care of their patients. Every detail of their medication, their food intake, water intake blood pressure, blood work, pulse, weight, breathing, wound care...all aspects of their health and recovery are considered and taken into consideration. Our transplant coordinator called us after our visit today to make adjustments to my husband's medication based off of his blood work results. The care is impeccable. In addition to the excellent standard of care, the doctors, nurses and staff are kind and friendly making you feel much more at ease and relaxed. Having a transplant is stressful, but Piedmont Transplant has addressed the anxiety made the experience so much more enjoyable. Words can't express how grateful I am for this incredible team!
