Pediatric Medical Psychiatric Program at Hasbro Children's

I was sent there to help with my anger problems, right? Mind you, I was 8-10 at the time. If I were to break something, my psychiatrist told my family just take my tablet away instead of actually helping me through my anger. I’ve even seen kids with eating disorders there, they had to eat to earn their phone! Shout out to Dr. Willis for everything he put me through!

I attended this hospital multiple times throughout 2018-2020 for the eating disorder/psych program. I would write this 0 stars if I could, eating disorder patients were forced to it spoiled food, the grapes were always rotten and lettuce was always brown. Most of the time they wouldn’t have anything to replace it with so it was either eat the rotten food or have to drink ensure which they encourage parents to punish when ensure is needed. In the inpatient program, I was yelled at by one of the mileu therapists for struggling with eating. They were forcing me to eat nearly 4k calories a day, I couldn’t stomach my food because it was too much for any person to handle. I am also lactose intolerant, which they did not believe and forced me to drink copious amounts of milk everyday. They change

My child was there 8 years ago for an eating disorder. Eight years later, as an adult, she is still traumatized by the experience. I hope things have changed since! She was there for 3 months and never saw outside the walls of the unit - not one breath of fresh air. Their policy was to make eating disorder patients gain more than their goal weight to compensate for eventual weight loss. If you know anything about eating disorders, you know this will backfire (which it did). The clinicians were very patronizing and accusatory, treating the eating disorder like a behavior problem not an illness. Again, I hope things have changed, but it has taken years of competent therapy to undo the damage of this unit.

If I could give negative stars I would. My daughter’s basic needs are not being met, never mind her mental health needs. We’re being lied to, patronized, and dismissed. I will never take my child here again!

I went here for my mental health, they made it all about my diabetes which I already had under control. They are extremely cruel and impatient. They dismissed all my concerns and I’m general it made me absolutely miserable. Please take this as a warning don’t put your kids through this living hell. I never wish this on my worst enemy.
