Customer Reviews
I recently moved to Pacific Beach and came with a lot of dental issues, which made finding a new dentist pretty intimidating—especially after leaving my dentist of 13 years. I’m so glad I found this practice. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by Harjot and Kaylen, who are welcoming, kind, and immediately put you at ease. I had a deep cleaning with Shannon, and she was fantastic—thorough, gentle, and incredibly reassuring. I’ve since had multiple procedures, including a tooth extraction, and every experience has been far better than expected. Dr Gee and the entire team is professional, caring, and communicative, and they truly make you feel supported every step of the way. Finding a dentist you trust isn’t easy, but this office has exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend
Dr. Schaller was the only good thing about this place, and now that she has left, I have no faith whatsoever in the other dentists to treat patients with skill and with good intentions. So many reviews have mentioned them pushing questionably necessary procedures, and this practice rings true with what I have experienced. Dr. Schaller is a good dentist, and treated me with skill and professionalism. But for my last appointment, they didn't inform me that she had left, gave me a different dentist without telling me beforehand, and I left the procedure with more numbness--that has turned into pain and sensitivity--than I have ever had before from a simple cavity filling.
I came to PB smiles with no pain and now I can’t chew on my left side. I’m sorry to write such a bad review, but it’s been a year and a half and I’ve given PB smiles many chances to get it right and they haven’t. I’ve been in for FIVE APPOINTMENTS since Dr Schaller performed on-lay that caused me pain. I’ve made countless calls to the office and to Dr Sam Schaller with no progress. I felt dismissed every time I complained. Dr Schaller said- “teeth are weird” and “this is why you read the consent forms for a procedure. It’s all in the paperwork you signed that this can happen”. Another time a PA suggested I simply grind my almonds and put them in smoothies going forward! I wish I’d read the reviews about this place doing unnecessary work before I agreed to the onlay in the 1st place.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. There are way too many dental practices out there to risk going through anything like I did. I work in an industry that things can go sideways, and I am understanding. The office had so many times to get this right, and each time I ended up leaving more upset than before. I initially was told I had a cavity and needed an inlay, then an onlay, then that didn’t work so a crown. I was in the most excruciating pain after a misdiagnosis of needing an crown, and was told I needed to use a mouthguard at night and to buy one (at half discount) because it was “probably from grinding” Then, that didn’t work, I was in tears from pain multiple times, and after over a month from the original procedure - I could not eat on my left side at all. Having to show up at the of
The dentist himself was respectful and informative. However, I felt pressured into a treatment plan totaling around $1,000 when I came in specifically for a routine cleaning. I was instead presented with scaling, retainer removal, and a night guard, which were not my priority concerns and I was told the dentist would have to come back and approve the change in the treatment plan to get just a normal cleaning. The administrative staff member I spoke with was condescending, which made the experience uncomfortable. Overall, while the dentist was professional, the visit felt more sales-driven than patient-centered.
