Orthopedic Urgent Care at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center

I walked in with an unknown broken femur (yes walked. Don't be like me). They have taken excellent care of me from day 1 and have given me my life back relatovely quick (4 months). As a single mom of 3 and very busy small business owner, I owe them a lot. They listened and understood my lifestyle and made changes when needed.

I’m not sure why they call it urgent care, because there’s absolutely nothing urgent about it. You go in expecting to be seen quickly, but somehow it always turns into “we’re booked out for weeks” or “you’ll need to schedule an appointment months down the road.” At that point, it’s really no different than Monument. The only thing they seem to handle urgently is billing your insurance — that part magically happens same day, no delay there. It’s honestly ridiculous. South dakota needs to catch up with the rest of the country because this system is stuck in slow motion.

My daughter and I went to the walk in @ Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center. The front office lady was very helpful and kind. She deserve five stars. When we entered the exam room, the nurse was also friendly and kind. When the PA-C, Daniel Palmer, came in, he was arrogant and rude. He did shake our hands and asked what was hurting her. My daughter explained her knee was in pain and that another Dr. had put her in a stabilizer brace, and that we needed to get an MRI. They were thinking meniscus tear. He had my daughter sit on the table. He moved her knee maybe three times, and asked where it hurt. She showed him the side and back, front, and below the knee cap. He moved her knee cap and said it is probably just cartilage buildup. You don't need to use a brace at all, your knee is fine

We travel 80 miles each way to come here, as we have limited medical services available in my town. We came in for the urgent care for my daughter, the front desk checked us in. She continued to check in 6-7 additional people, I checked back in to see where we were 1 1/2 hours later. The lady behind the desk says “Oh I’m so sorry, I forgot about you!”. We checked in again with a different receptionist, and were finally given paperwork to also fill out this time. After waiting for 2 1/2 hours to be seen, we were finally brought back to the urgent care waiting room.

We are a swim club 1000 miles from home, we had a swimmer dislocate her kneecap. We were in a very very tight on time (30min), before the driver would have to cut our ride short to our next destination 6h away for a mandatory 10h break. We would’ve lost our hotel reservation and would’ve gotten home a day late. I wish I knew what doc, rad tech, nurse, and front desk staff name, but they saw our desperation to be checked out and get in the road, again in 30min, and we were back on the bus with 1 min to spare. As this is a unique story the staff know who they are, the patient, myself, the whole Brownsburg swim club, and her parents are extremely grateful. 💕
