My stay at Riverside was for scheduled surgery. I received clear, comprehensive instructions ahead of time and our check-in was easy with respectful and friendly staff. For my 4-day stay, I was cared for by doctors, nurses, a surgery team, and other professionals. The nurses, who comprised most of the time of my stay there, were patient, attentive and helpful with any problems I had meeting the requirements for my discharge. They met more than my physical needs—they were compassionate and kind. People talk derisively about hospital food, but it was delicious! I wish I could thank each and every one of the staff for making my surgery stay a positive experience!
The nursing staff and most doctors were wonderful. Dr. Hashimi and the pain management deserves 0 stars. Less than 24 hours out of abdominal surgery she cut my pain meds off, refused to discuss it. Couldn’t even give me the respect of allowing me to speak. She went against the care plan created by my specialists. She didn’t even examine me. She stood 10 feet away, talked over me. It’s been now over 24 hours since my surgical incision has even been inspected. I did reach out to the customer experience team who is working on the complaint but being the weekend I am trapped with zero help and in a 10/10 pain, as someone with multiple chronic illnesses and severe anxiety this is not good patient care. My father had open heart surgery here. The ONLY reason I’m giving this hospital a 2 star is for his team of primary doctors and surgeons overseeing his care. Otherwise, I’d give a zero star if I could. Nurses here have ZERO bedside manner. I was appalled to witness how they spoke to my father, our family, and other patients going through the same scary time literally within 24hrs of the surgery. These very patients that are otherwise independent are currently completely dependent for every action and word.. yet these nurses appear inconvenienced and annoyed by any question or request. They also don’t seem to care if a patient is in pain. Why it took an additional hour and multiple requests for his *scheduled* pain reliever post a major surgery is beyond me. ⭐ 1 STAR — If I could give zero, I would. I have terminal bone cancer. I came to Riverside’s ER because my leg went completely numb and I passed out. They rushed me into a room ONLY because EMS brought me in, and from that moment forward I was treated like a billing opportunity, not a patient. For hours, they ran test after test but REFUSED to give me pain medication, even though I repeatedly told them I hadn’t had anything since 11 AM and was in excruciating bone pain. They claimed they were “waiting on the doctor” for almost three hours, while I lay there shaking in agony. They told me I had “elevated troponins” and made a big dramatic show about “concern for my heart.” If they were that worried, why didn’t they start fluids when they couldn’t even find a vein? Phenomenal! I had a pelvic venogram at this location and the minute we walked through the doors, everyone was so helpful & friendly. I couldn’t believe how great everyone was. I would recommended Riverside & Dr Cook to anyone. Dr Cook has answered questions I’ve been begging for years to get answered. I felt heard and validated.
