I was hit by a car while delivering for Doordash on a bike in downtown Chicago Pros: Very quick service, professional service. A full work up, ostensibly covered by medicaid. Cons: Consent to treatment was collected after the fact. This was a big issue for me because no one likes having their ass grabbed out the blue, but I understand why the medical worker might have thought this was okay. Nothing a quick training can't resolve and improve for patients across the board. I was left with open wounds that bled all over the sheets for reasons unknown. This is definitely not acceptable in an environment where unknown pathogens can be introduced fairly easily. Northwestern has a reputation of excellence to live up to, and this was not an excellent experience by any stretch. However, I remai
I came into the hospital today with acute pain and nausea. I have endometriosis and I was incredibly concerned. When I first arrived, I dealt with security who directed me to the right entrance and were incredibly welcoming. The staff who checked me in were professional, expeditious, and kind. Next the nurses who triaged me were incredibly kind to me, my service dog, and everyone in the vicinity- even unhoused individuals who were seeking treatment were treated with respect. Once I was sent to my room, I was immediately greeted by staff and a doctor to ask me about my symptoms. Once I was prescribed medication and fluids, my nurse came in and introduced himself. Braulio has to be the most personable, caring, supportive, attentive, and kind nurse I have ever encountered and I grew up wi
I want to acknowledge that Dr. Frank and nurse Kat was exceptional. They were compassionate, attentive, and genuinely made me feel heard during a very stressful time. Their bedside manner was the highlight of my stay which is the only reason I'm giving my review 2 stars. Otherwise it would be none at all. My overall experience did not match that level of care. The wait times were excessive. I was admitted at 7pm and was not discharged until 5am. While I understand ER delays happen, there was very little communication in between. While I was admitted there was one nurse who was passive and contradicting. When I asked to have my IV removed due to discomfort, I was told to keep it in case more fluids were needed. Later when I requested those fluids, I was told the IV would be removed instead
If I could give this emergency room a zero, I would! I drove all the way from Indiana because my mother was experiencing EXTREME pain, and this hospital is suppose to be top ranked. I'm sure the emergency room was not evaluated for that ranking! When we arrived I felt like I was going to see someone in prison instead of having my sick mother attended to. They wouldn't even allow my mother in door without a search of her body and purse. They have NO compassion for sick persons or the elderly! The emergency room area was dirty and OVERCROWDED! I had to look at the name on the building again to make sure that I wasn't at Stroger hospital! Northwestern shouldn't get ANOTHER award until their emergency room has a total overhaul! By the way, I ended up going back to Indiana with my mother moanin
Perhaps the worst emergency department experience I’ve seen. The environment was chaotic and poorly controlled. Staff appeared overwhelmed and disorganized, with little evidence of coordinated leadership. Triage processes were ineffective, relying on an algorithm that clearly did not match patient volume or acuity, resulting in significant delays. Planning and capacity management seemed disconnected from reality. Overall, a system operating beyond its limits without adequate structure to compensate.
