MUSC Children's Health After Hours Care - Mount Pleasant

First visit at this clinic. We came for “after hours” pediatric urgent care. It was wonderful being able to come here in Mount Pleasant versus having to head downtown to MUSC Rutledge Tower or MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. We arrived on a late afternoon of Christmas Eve. It was fairly quiet and we were promptly seen. The nursing staff and doctor were very attentive and wonderful to work with. The front desk staff was also very pleasant. The facility is lovely and very accessible. I wish they had a pediatric primary care at this facility, they unfortunately do not. They do provide a whole range of specialty pediatric care on the upper floor during the daytime. And then this after hours clinic is available from late afternoon into evening. We have had good experience with many doctors and medical staff in urgent care. Dr. Ajula is also wonderful: competent, attentive, respectful, prompt. We had a negative experience upstairs though. The office is disorganized. The nutritionist that we saw made us wait for more than 45 minutes even though there was one other patient in the clinic when we checked in. Only one check out window was open. The closed window had multiple staff members chat very loudly and cheerfully. It’s hard to understand why they couldn’t keep their conversations more private in the waiting room full of patients and instead of chatting, help the lady in the only open window with the growing line of patients. I’ve had great experiences here at After Hours up until this last visit. Unfortunately, the doctor on call tonight repeatedly scolded me about my son’s delayed vaccination schedule. I explained our situation and even asked her multiple times to stop, but she continued. The conversation felt harassing and unprofessional, and it made an already stressful situation much worse. I expect respectful, supportive communication from medical providers, even when there are differences in opinion

First time visit! Location is a bit tricky but it’s so convenient. Dr. Mcbee and nurse are super nice and very thorough. She knows my son might have RSV just by listening to his coughing. Best experience I’ve ever had seeing a Pedi!!! By the time I got home, test result and visit notes are already uploaded to my chart. Easy enough!! :)

I showed up with my son (4.5yrs) at 6:04p today, Sat 12/28/24. They were open, and set to close at 7p. But instead of letting us in, nobody was in the waiting room and the staff was sitting behind the desk just talking and not acknowledging us at the locked door. There was a sign posted on the door saying that they have “capped registration” and aren’t able to see anymore patients today. I’m confused as how a Dr Office, especially and urgent care for Kids, has a limit on how many patients that they are allowed to help. Goes to show, that people are just a number in the medical system. Such a shame! We ended up going up the street to MedCare urgent care and was seen immediately. Just yet another reason to dislike MUSC
