Modern Vet Care

My current dog, Tyson, and my deceased pet, Smokey, have been patients of 21 Avenue Animal Clinic PC—now known as Modern Vet Care—for nearly 20 years. Unfortunately, today’s visit was extremely disappointing and upsetting. Tyson is currently experiencing a medical condition that I reported to Modern Vet Care on Tuesday, December 16. I was told by the receptionist that the doctor would not see him and that I should take him to an emergency facility. Due to the late hour and the high cost of emergency care, this was not financially feasible. Early the following morning, I left a message requesting that Tyson be seen for an examination, as Modern Vet Care has his complete medical history, including recent blood work and testing. I had a very disappointing experience here. Me and my partner were charged high fees for routine services, over $450 and later quoted $900 for a standard cat spay, which is far above typical pricing. After getting a second opinion, I learned the same care including vaccinations and spay was available safely and appropriately at a nonprofit clinic for free. Nothing about my pet’s condition justified the cost or the pressure to proceed. The pricing felt excessive and exploitative rather than transparent or patient centered. I was charged for multiple add-ons and bundled services that were presented as necessary, but later learned were not required for a healthy cat. This included wellness “packages,” extra diagnostics, and additional charges that were never clearly explained as optional.

Very unprofessional front desk staff with a terrible dismissive attitude and lack of professionalism. I simply had a quick question and rather than behave in a courteous manner to engage me, she kept trying to ignore me and then gave an eye-roll with an attitude slamming down chairs and shouting they are closed. How can you be that angry when you work around sweet fur animals all day? You definitely cannot trust a place with your fur baby when they lack the most crucial attitude of showing kindness, empathy and speaking respectfully to potential clients -now a permanently lost client. It is not worth risking taking my baby here with that kind of behavior as a first encounter. Wow. The care and level of concern here is unparalleled. My dog has been ill with a complex issue- they check in regularly and call the second test results are in, even after hours on a weekend. These are real animal lovers and they truly care about the health and wellbeing of your pet. Also their cat assistants have excellent bedside manner and bring a levity to serious situations ( usually by knocking over pill bottles and napping on keyboards)
