Martin's Pharmacy

I usually have a good experience with Martin’s Pharmacy in Harrisonburg. They have always seemed professional and friendly. But today, there was a woman standing at the counter texting on her phone and talking to the people behind the counter when the pharmacist called me forward to get my medication. I’m guessing the woman was a customer waiting for a prescription, not sure. She remained beside me about a foot away chatting with the pharmacist, who did not ask her to step away as I was asked my last name and date of birth and my medication was set on the counter. Not sure if this is normal or not, but I felt uncomfortable with the lack of privacy.

Andy just saved the day for a member of our family. He was willing to stay after the pharmacy closed to make sure we received critical medicine before the Thanksgiving holiday (we did actually make it before the pharmacy closed). We're so thankful for Andy's willingness to help where he could.

We have used Martin’s Pharmacy for years. We walk in and one’s who have been there for years know who we are. They have always been very helpful, friendly and have our scripts filled in a timely manner. We greatly appreciate all of their help over the years. Andy and Tina in particular have especially been wonderful to our family.

My personal experiences have varied wildly depending on which staff member is assisting me. But I had one experience which made me decide to switch to a new pharmacy. I was having trouble getting a prior authorization to go through -- not their fault. So I decided I wanted to just go ahead and pay out of pocket for my medication. The pharmacist said that's not allowed. He said, if I have insurance, then I can't have any medicine unless my insurance approves it for me. He insisted that it would be fraudulent to circumvent my insurance like that, and that the pharmacy could get sued with they were caught. What??? I've paid for medicine out of pocket many times before when my insurance wouldn't cooperate. Including at that location before! He said whoever was working there must not have been

I needed to pick up an antibiotic which was very necessary. They showed I had 2 insurances, I explained I only had the one, they wouldn't let me have my medicine not even paying cash. They refused to let another pharmacy fill it either, they held it hostage. I had to go back to the Dr. and get a new script sent to Krogers. What a joke!!!! Terrible experiences twice.
