I was living in Florida, but visiting relatives in Northern AL when I broke my ankle going down a slide with my 18-month-old great grandson. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had Dr. Schakel as the surgeon who solved my hammertoe deformity. He is compassionate, highly skilled and takes total control of his patient’s healing and well-being. When I broke my ankle partway through my surgery recovery, he took positive action to ensure this secondary injury received just as much attention and concern as my original problem. I would highly recommend him and his wonderful staff for the care of foot and ankle issues.

. Dr. Schakel is a godsend. He’s a very patient person who genuinely cares about his patients. He always takes the time to explain things to me in terms that I can understand. He’s diligent in making sure my health is the best it can be. His assistant Pam is wonderful too and they make the best team. I have had about 5 surgeries now with feet and knee and I would recommend Dr. Schakel to anyone seeking a kind, compassionate, and brilliant doctor!

I really appreciate all of the answered questions and concerns prior to and post-op for my ankle surgery. I am on the road to recovery. I had 2 hard casts and now the boot. The Dr. was A+++

Dr Schakel was very professional and handled my foot issues well. I'm just really sorry he's retiring and won't be able to do my OTHER foot! The office is great and easy to work with.
