ManorCare Health Services-Palm Desert

Day after knee replacement surgery, I was assigned to Manor Care by my insurance Medical Group. I the hospital, I had been up and walking, with assistive devices, in the morning before transferring to Manor Care. I was reassured that all medications and doctor orders were in place so off I go. If my memory serves me correctly, I arrived around 1-2:00 p.m. and was placed in a room. After that ride, I was in excruciating pain. My nurse indicated it would be a few minutes until they got all the doctor orders entered. Hour goes by..... NO PAIN MEDS. I also have severe restless leg syndrome and it was throbbing and uncontrollable. With each involuntary spasm, pain increased from the knee replacement surgical site. HOURS GO BY...... My mother was released to Manor Care on January 19th. She passed away on January 25. My mother had a spine infection that required IV antibiotics. I had scheduled for her to come home on the twenty-sixth of January. My mother had other health issues like COPD from secondhand smoke. She was on dialysis for kidney failure. She was diabetic, but because of the dialysis, her diabetes was under control. She also had heart issues that were under control according to her heart doctor; she didn't need to be seen for another year as the heart doctor had seen her less than a month before she was admitted to Manor Care. I went to fill out the paperwork the next day. In the paperwork, I stated and made sure it was noted that my mom was not to have any kind of narcotic medication. The only medication

Physical therapy here is wonderful - the therapist are knowledgeable and help push the patients. The rest of the staff is horrible. No one knows what is going on. I couldn't get answers for basic questions - how do we order what we want for meals?? I would get a blank stare. Quick tempered, non-caring assistants... nurses only do meds... my dad was left in a dirty diaper for 3 hours one night - the person that came to answer his light said "I have no time for this, I have to go to lunch" and left. 3 hours in a dirty depends. People go there for rehab - meaning they usually can't do for themselves...at the mercy of the staff which is unattentive and often rude. Go elsewhere.

The past few months there’s been a tremendous change for the better. Nurses are attentive and courteous to their patients. Even going as far as checking in on them almost every hour. The facility looks and smells clean. Good job in cleaning up your facility.

I've waited a few weeks to write this review. I wanted time to process the care my mom received here. My thoughts haven't changed. I wish I could give zero or negative stars. It was awful. PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR FAMILY MEMBER BE PLACED HERE! I'll start with the positive. It was clean. Once you were able to get through to someone the nurses/caregivers were nice enough. The negatives - pretty much everything else. The food, the lack of communication, the lack of promised therapy etc. The biggest problem comes from the administration. They don't care, don't return calls and tell you lies. I was told the two week isolation and the God awful visiting policy were a result of COVID. It may have been at one point but I called 3 other facilities in a 5 mile radius and NONE of them had the
