MaineHealth Neurology - Brunswick

I suffer from severe, chronic migraines. I have been treated for them at this practice for over three years now. Dr. Unia has been my doc until her recent departure. I have since been assigned to a new doc who I will see next week. I cannot say enough good things about this practice. Everyone is friendly, helpful and professional at all times. Dr Unia is an exceptional provider, too. I’ve suffered from migraines my entire life and she’s the only neurologist who finally found a treatment plan that works for me. She is empathetic, personable, kind and caring. I knew I was in good hands from my first appointment with her. I will miss her and will forever be grateful to her. I need them to do my FMLA paperwork every year for Work. I play phone tag with them. Literally every visit, paperwork, refill, ANYTHING, they won’t answer the phone unless you call the provider line. They manage to just put my paperwork on a shelf and ignore it. 90% of the time if they call me and I run outside to take it and call them right back they don’t answer. What’s the point? I hate going here for my epilepsy. Makes it feel like they don’t care at all.

The overall clinic is significantly better than Mainehealth's Scarborough clinic by a long shot. Sometimes I feel ashamed of my communication difficulties with the front end staff, being shortly asked "What exactly are you asking about?" or "uh, what exactly does that mean?" when I'm trying to get it out. The doctors so far has been great. I just feel like I need to write everything down so I don't say the wrong word or phrase to the nurses or receptionist or whatever (I have mild aphasia) and made to feel like I'm wasting their time or annoying them by it. I'm sorry I don't sounds disabled enough to be patient with.

Two years ago I saw Dr Unia for chronic debilitating headaches which I still have and have gotten worse. She was very cavalier about administering Botox without so much as even examining me. I had to insist she do so at the follow up visit. She prescribed migraine meds and sent me on my way. During both visits she spoke into her transcription device while I was speaking and consequently had my history incorrect. . I am currently being referred to another neurologist and would definitely encourage others to avoid this practice.. I am also of the understanding that if you ask to see another neurologist in this practice bc you are unhappy with the doctor you've already seen the whole practice will refuse to see you admin

The staff is very kind and helpful, my doctor really knows what he is doing, and cares about his patients.
