Lake Urgent Care - Denham Springs South

I visited this urgent care on a Saturday due to symptoms of strep throat. The receptionist at the front desk was very kind, professional, and welcoming. Unfortunately, the experience with the clinical staff was very different. After being brought back to the exam room, the nurse who attended to me never introduced herself and immediately began taking vital signs. My oxygen saturation reading was slightly low, which appeared to frustrate her. She repeatedly moved the pulse oximeter from finger to finger in an apparent attempt to obtain a higher reading. When the numbers remained the same, she abruptly told me to “take deep breaths,” which I did before she eventually removed the device. My honest opinion. It was a quick in and out. The only issue is that it felt too quick...kind of rushed quick. Normally, I feel like my doctor is invested in the issue, and takes a moment to have a discussion with me. Not this. It was like a 5 minute oil change. Also, I don't feel as though I was provided the treatment that I was expecting/requesting. Usually I have a great experience. This particular time I felt it was different.

I was their first patient of the day. I explain my symptoms to the nurse and the doctor. Despite mentioning my sore throat and it’s sudden onset, the doctor chose to test me for flu and Covid. Both were negative. She prescribed an over-the-counter medication?? Why would you do that If I can get it over-the-counter? I found out later that I in fact, had strep throat. This was not a surprise to me since I had white spots all over my tonsils at the time of my exam. Even though I was the first patient of the day she didn’t seem to interested in being thorough in her examination. I was very disappointed as I usually have a good experience at this location.

I was feeling like I had got hit by a bus but no fever. I explained all symptoms to the nurse prior to seeing the NP. The NP repeated multiple times to me that it was nothing that they could do right now since it’s so early. I knew something wasn’t right and I suggested that I receive a flu test. She was hesitant but as soon as I explained my symptoms Again, with no fever, she agreed. The test was positive and if i didn’t speak up for myself I would’ve been miserable. This type of push away treatment is common in urgent care and totally unacceptable. I know they see hundreds of new faces daily, but to send someone home because they don’t have a fever and not test for anything is insane. Do better by your patients. Sadly i will not be returning to this location again.

I’ve had ok experiences in the past with this clinic, but today prompted a review. The NP that saw my daughter was rude, rushed, and didn’t even address all issues. My daughter went in after having a serious fall down some stairs and also feeling terrible (throat and fever). The NP basically said that she wasn’t sick and her throat didn’t look that bad, dismissed her feelings/concerns but they would go ahead and “test anyway”. Lo and behold she did test positive for strep!! The NP never address her pain from the fall and never came back in the room after she ordered the strep test. Also, she refused her a steroid shot knowing how much she was hurting from the fall and felling miserable on top of it. I know there are rules to steroids, but it was an option in this case! She just gave her a
