Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation - Chester

I really wanted this facility to work out due to its convenience for visiting my mother while she was recovering from a stroke. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. Within the first hour of her stay, I began to have concerns when a CNA made inappropriate jokes about “beating up” difficult patients and spoke to my mother in a very infantilizing way. I reported this to the head of nursing, who addressed it and reassigned the CNA, which I appreciated. While we did encounter a few wonderful nurses, many staff members seemed overwhelmed, and I often felt I needed to be present to ensure my mother received attentive care. Finally able to go home Sunday after spending 11 days in hospital and 18 days in Kessler Rehab in Chester NJ Kessler was everything you would want in a rehab, also the nurses and Aides were the best I’m going to miss some of the people I’ve made friends with. The Physical Therapy department was the best especially Toni (the rock), Lauren who always showered me Miranda who showed me how I can still be able to cook, Jan, Bailey, Jamie, Jennifer, Coleen, Esther, Wendy, Rachel, Christie, Aditi, Emma, Julia, even though Aaron the Judge wasnt one of my PT’s he was always saying hi to me everytime he saw me., these were the best PT I ever had they give you encouragement and even tell you to rest and stop if you have to. I’m so incredibly disgusted with some of the staff that work at this place. My grandmother suffered a stroke and we thought this was going to be best fit for her but we were entirely wrong. The staff here is absolutely awful and shouldn’t be in this field of work if they aren’t going to properly take care of the patients. Some of the nurses were wonderful but others were completely disrespectful and didn’t care for my grandmother. She felt like she was a nobody. No one deserves to feel that way. They wouldn’t shower her when she had asked and she felt like she was a bother to them. Upon trying to take her out of there my mother had to do a three hour training course and after that course they didn’t want to release her to us until the following week. I would like to start this out by saying the speech, occupational, and physical therapists were amazing, did an amazing job caring and helping my grandmother. But some nurses really should pick another occupation. They do not know how to care for people here because they are sick human beings, they have no compassion, and no decency whatsoever. Some of the female nurses aids were 100 times better than some of the nurses. I would never recommend this place for people who plan to put loved ones here. They ought to be put out of business with the way they treat their patients.

Having recently spent two weeks here I can say 3 stars for the therapists, who were great, zero for the facility. With only the exception of two, the nurses are inexperienced and couldn't perform the most basic of procedures and left me with an infection needing a urologist for a month after my discharge. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
