We had three appointments altogether. She was late every time. She expressed to me at our first appointment that she only does 40-45 minute sessions instead of the typical therapy hour. This concerned me, but I was still willing to try. Twice, she rescheduled our appointment at the last minute. Once, she didn't even ask me and simply assumed that I would be available at the earlier time. I expressed concern over this, and she seemed understanding. Then, this week, she didn't confirm the appointment and so I asked her about it a day in advance. She didn't get back to me until an hour before, claiming that the appointment was never scheduled, despite having asked me "how about the same time next week" at our previous appointment. Cancelled our initial consultation without warning 30 minutes before it was scheduled to occur. She will argue it was because I did not pay in advance but I have never had a therapist require payment in advance and I was not told of this policy (all she said was that her assistant "sends out invoices early"). None of this is surprising based on the other reviews but I thought they maybe have been just a couple of people that got pissy when things didn't go work out well - nope, this is how she is I guess. Was also very confused by her billing practices.

I've been a patient of Dr. McGowen for about 6 years now. She is real and wonderful and has helped me through some of the darkest times of my life. She never gave up on me and always had unwavering faith in my abilities through the many life transitions that came and still are coming my way during our time together. She is honest, fair and will always tell you the truth, but you know with that truth, that it is backed by sincerely caring for her patients. Without truth, there is no progress. She's pretty special.

Jessica has been there as a sounding board for so many tough “life moments”. The guidance and perspective I gained from our regular talks I was able to apply to my life and feel my confidence has grown as a result. Truly thankful!
