Hill Center

My NP, Vona, and my case manager, Maddison, were knowledgeable, compassionate professionals who did a great job managing my care and had a positive impact on my life. However, my overall experience at Hill Center at McLean in Belmont, MA was spotty: while some staff were extremely professional, knowledgable and supportive, others fell far short, and the program could have been a lot better. One disturbing experience was when a nurse remarked, "you have soiled yourself", when referring to a little and innocuous Model Magic stain. To me, this language was crass and inappropriate in the first place; for the nature of the program, PTSD treatment. The language involved in most of the group sessions was highly explicit and triggering-for example, words like "bladder” and "excessive peeing." It

Trying to get services at this trauma treatment center ranged from frustrating to triggering. It is impossible to get information about the program and not once did they return calls from me or my outpatient provider. It took 2 months of back and forth to get an intake and another several weeks to verify insurance (this all on you, they do not assist). During the intake I asked about the LGBTQ competence of the program/providers and they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. When I finally arrived to the program I discovered policies that made it impossible for me to participate and that should have been communicated to me beforehand. I was a patient at the hill center last summer. The groups were very helpful. The other patients who were in my cohort were so kind, compassionate and caring. We all stuck together and still are connected. However, the social worker (Antonia) chose to tell my therapist that we didn’t have a therapeutic relationship. She wrote lies in my record. She stated she checked in with me everyday for safety which wasn’t true. She said I was the only one in my cohort who was having safety issues. Yet, several of my cohorts ended up in the ER and inpatient during our time at the hill center. It’s hard going through this intense program and not having safety issues. Great experience. Kind, supportive, and knowledgable prescribers, case managers, and group therapists. My feelings toward Hill Center are warm, even if we had to walk to the cafeteria in February to eat lunch. Would recommend to those looking to heal from their trauma. Thank you, Hill Center!

The hill center helped me alot in spring 2023 they heard me believed me and supported me. So I appreciate that. That being said I think being honest here is important. I haven’t always had a positive experience at the McLean hospital. I have been in different departments and units residential inpatient outpatient and partial. It seemed that at hill center spring 2023 I “fit a script” they liked. I had recently received a diagnosis that they were currently doing research on and looking to expand their understanding of. My therapist trained at McLean. They seemed to like me that time and coincidentally it coincided with me paying more.
